Nice get, Paucle! I studied Esperanto a long time ago but didn't recognize this. Do you speak the language, or just solve kvar=4 and dek=10 ergo kvardek=40?esrever wrote:The third singleton of the game goes to Paucle, who knew "kvardek sep" is 47 in Esperanto!
I went with eenenvijftig (51); even though I don't speak Dutch this seemed obvious based on how numbers are formed in German.

Thanks. I entered TD 193, too, when I was in Wales, and my scores so far are really bad.countyguy wrote:You're ahead of me. Good job.ElendilPickle wrote:Note to self: Don't enter TDs when you're out of the country.

You (and I) are ahead of a few Jeopardy! champions; take pride in that if nothing else.
Given my age and lack of super-obscure knowledge (or any pop culture from before 2005), I just expect to sheep it up on any TD. Which I have done in all three I've entered so far.

It is nice being ahead of some J! champs, thank you, but I would be higher still if I dropped all of those ?s. That part is not nice.nightreign wrote:You (and I) are ahead of a few Jeopardy! champions; take pride in that if nothing else.

Re: TD 194 -- General Knowledge: 20 of 10
I actually considered doing that, but I figured I should at least try to get better at these. I actually tried to go for the obvious answers, hoping people would stay away from them. My results are so far not-so-great. I finished in the middle om the 2 out of 5 and 11 TDs; this one is shaping up to be more of the same.countyguy wrote:It is nice being ahead of some J! champs, thank you, but I would be higher still if I dropped all of those ?s. Most Welsh people don't speak it, so its use is very limited. Three out of four people in Wales will stare at you blankly if you say something in Welsh.debramc wrote:I was surprised you didn't pick the Welsh number. I didn't do as much studying as I would have liked, unfortunately. At this point, I can say bore da, nos da, croeso, and diolch.debramc wrote:I was surprised you didn't pick the Welsh number. We heard a lot of Welsh speakers, more in the north than the south, but it was pretty common.

Took a semester in college 25 years ago, after 4 semesters of French. Would've taken more, but that's all that was offered. When I pieced it together and realized it was 47, the Star Trek number, it was a sign.Mathew5000 wrote:Nice get, Paucle! I studied Esperanto a long time ago but didn't recognize this. I was quite fluent in French after those years, BTW, after 3.5 years in high school. Almost all gone now, spoken and aural, but can read almost anything.
Couldn't quite pull the trigger on Sousa = 1890. Wasn't sure if it was that or 1900. Coin flipped 1980 and 1990. Good thing I chose Roxette or I would've ruined the elegance of the distribution.

Sheep sheep sheep. Just submitted most of these when I first saw it available going quickly on phone. Figured people wouldn't be picking all obvious but with so many entries the obvious would surely sheep. Though I thought people might pick Isabella for twilight on the name questions since that stuff was in the news, whereas I don't remember how it saw that Sophia was at the top. Maybe it was also in the news... Darn haha.

Almost dropped the name question, but for some reason figured it wouldn't have a high sheep so went with a guess there. Didn't pay off.
So far dropping would have been a better choice for me on all four answers. Then again, that would be quite boring.
Atleast my two wrong answers are now out of the way, and I'm not even in last place!

5. BASEBALL TEAMS
Name one of the current Major League Baseball teams whose team name is in one of the positions 11 through 20 (inclusive) on the alphabetical list of MLB team names. To be clear: It's the team names that are alphabetized, not the team locations.
This question had the most even distribution of answers in the game. Four teams tied for sheep status, with 8. The Cleveland Indians and the Philadelphia Phillies were the least popular of the 10 teams, with only four people selecting each of these two teams.

6. REALLY HIGH HIGHEST POINTS
Name one of the countries whose highest point is among the 9 highest highest points by country in the world. (Two of the countries have a highest point that is the same elevation and therefore they are tied on the list; this means that there are actually 10 countries from which to choose.) The country must be a sovereign state that is a member of the United Nations.
The biggest sheep of the game occurred here, with 21 people choosing Nepal. There were 11 wrong answers. Joy got a singleton with Kazakhstan. Afghanistan is ranked #7, but no one chose it. (Since two countries are tied at #1, there is no #2 country in the list below.)

7. BIG CITIES - PART ONE
Name one of the 10 most-populous cities in the continental United States EAST of the Mississippi River based on population within the city limits according to the 2010 census.
More players chose Boston than any other city even though it just barely made the list at #10. No one chose Memphis, which is #9 on the list. EDIT: No one chose Baltimore, either. (See below.)
EDIT: I inadvertently used the 2012 census population estimates instead of the 2010 census data. Boston was ranked #10 in population in 2012 but it was #11 in 2010; Baltimore was in 10th place. Therefore, "Boston" must be scored as a wrong answer. (Population figures shown here are still the 2012 numbers until further notice.)
