My totally wild guess of Malta was correct! Dear TPH, this is why you always write SOMETHING.

Picked up trash on, among others, "tea party in the usa" and "fish out of water under the bridge." I love Before and After so much.

Didn't keep score tonight but wish I had - I was running categories all over the place.

I had never heard of the song, so there was no way I was completing that one.

Wasn't sure if they wanted a country in the Mediterranean or just with a shoreline. Had I gone with the latter of these, I would have said Egypt. Fortunately, I chose correctly.

Mainland
And major. ("Major" is, of course, subjective, which is why they threw in the fact about the small railway town, but it helped me pick Miami over Brownsville.)
I figured the implication was lowest place in the lower 48, not the mainland thereof. Bit of hairsplitting IMO.

This was a pretty enjoyable board, even with "Stupid Answers."

Oddly enough, the only two clues that I knew in the "Organs and Glands" category were the bottom two. The "Before & After" category was also tough for me.

I also took the neg bait on the DD and guessed Call of the Wild. I would like to think that if I had been on the show and had taken a second to think about it then I would have turned to the correct response. Also, in the situation that Molly was in when she found that DD I would have been tempted to wager everything or almost everything (I was 4/4 in the category at that point, and Literature is one of my best categories). That would have hurt.

I don't think that I would have ever guessed "Fulton" on that other DD. The only name that I could think of was "Bushnell," but I figured that he was too obscure (turns out that he was way too late, too).

FJ was an instant get, though I was a little worried that it could be Cyprus. It was a great clue, but it had "triple stumper" written all over it.

Ah yes, Jay-Z struck again. I had "Tea Party," but not the second part. If only the clue had mentioned Miley Cyrus, instead.

Congratulations to Molly the Good, but her win today was underwhelming. She was able to climb back to a near lock after stumbling badly in (single) Jeopardy! I knew she would win after I saw how aggressively the lawyer bet on the wrong answer.

For FJ, I immediately came up with Israel (or as the French call it, Israël) so had to check the Internet afterward to find that English is not an official language there. I thought it was, because the "Welcome to Israel" signs are in Hebrew, Arabic, and English.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

Ditto, I usually think of that song as a Miley Cyrus song.

If I had got that submarine DD clue, I think I would have had to say, "Oh, that was a real submarine?"

Looking at Wikipedia, I realize that that was an oddly large gap in my submarine knowledge.
I'm done. Abandon all hope ye who enter here.

That B&A ate me alive. I knew they wanted a Miley Cyrus song because I saw Todd in the Shadows review it, but couldn't pull the title. If I had gotten the title, "Tea Party" might've clicked, but I couldn't get that either.

She had to bet aggressively because she was on the trailing end of a crush.

Also, the performance of the contestants was pretty pathetic on the first handful of clues. They were really easy and the contestants were giving pathetic answers, especially in the American Cities category. That, combined with the Panama and FJ! TS, suggests maybe these contestants aren't too keen on geography. The answer said "In the Mediterranean," so that made me rule out everything but Malta and Cyprus. I then decided Cyprus was less likely than Malta due to it being all Greek and Turkish, so I went with Malta. How lucky was I!

It is a Miley Cyrus song. She namechecks Jay-Z in the lyrics.

And the taxi man turned on the radio
and the Jay-Z song was on,
and the Jay-Z song was on --
So I put my hands up...

It is a Miley Cyrus song. At various points in the song she mentions turning on the radio and hearing various songs by Jay-Z and Britney (Spears), but they don't actually appear.

J round was really good for me, DJ was not as good. Spent a good fifteen seconds deciding if they really meant "in" the Mediterranean, but did ultimately pick Malta.

32 out of 60. 5/5 on Sports, 0/5 on glands, 1/5 on cuisine, 4/5 on centuries. I was thinking that the Jack London clue was too easy at $2000, but then the switch.

Lach trash: "power", "Panama", "Fulton" (wild guess), "San Marino"

I said Lebanon for the FJ. I was thinking about the American University in Beirut. I knew Malta was a country, but didn't think about it here.

Seeing as how I've probably spent a total of 2 months on Malta, it was an instaget. The funny thing about the Maltese is that they all speak English, Maltese, and Italian, and usually all three in the same sentence. They just kind of flow in and out of the languages as they see fit. And as mentioned earlier, Maltese is a Semitic language, so it sounds a lot like Arabic.

Agreed. I don't think it's playing fair to do that on a DD. The trivium in question is far from common knowledge. So a contestant gets stuck trying to decide which way the writers are trying to psych her out. On a regular clue, I'd say this would've been sneaky but fair. Caveat buzzer and all that. I'm glad Molly didn't lose due to their dirty trick.

I wondered the same thing, because the conceit of Stupid Answers is that the words in the answer always appear in the clue. However, Alex doesn't explain this, so I'm not sure if they would neg an equivalent response that does not appear in the clue. There may be precedent for this, but I can't think of an example off the top of my head.

Perhaps floridagator was refering to the DD where she only bet $1000....(sarcasm?)

Not much lach trash for me tonight "Joe Lewis" - "Miami" - "Power" I knew all but the $1000 on Body Parts. They seemed pretty easy, but I guess Molly was beating the opponents on the buzzer.

Had no clue on the FJ. I guessed Vatican City also, and I knew it was wrong.
