Okay, let's get the reference only I would make out of the way first:
Ran Seuss, "Ood", Altered States, and "Zone". Dual Biographies was my only 0/5. Great Coryat for me of $26,800.
Lach Trash: Tropical zone, Marx Brothers.
I had never heard of any of the bottom three acts in Band.
Corporate for $200 threw me because, even with "Messenger of the Gods", I couldn't think of a Mercury company that had anything to do with teens driving. Tricky clue IMO. "Yum!" was my only get in the category.
Hands up: who else knew "paterfamilias" from O Brother, Where Art Thou? Love that movie.
Benedict Arnold was AMERICAN?!?
What led to "chair" on Furniture for $1600?
No guess on FJ!

Terrible game with terrible TSes, terrible guesses, and terrible FJ wagers to cap it off. Yahtzee!
Got FJ, but it took until 29.9 seconds had elapsed. That's a home get, but no way I would've written it down in time.
Congrats on the three wins Jennifer! Sorry to see you go.

Now that was a poorly played game. Ran Rome and "ood" in the first round. Almost ran Seuss, but I came up with "If I Owned the Zoo" instead of "If I Ran the Zoo", so tough luck there. No runs in double. Instaget FJ.

MISSISSIPPI???
Nasty negbait on Flynn/Fairbanks. I'll always go with Flynn first with "swashbuckler".
Instaget FJ.
Ditto. Had non clue whether to go with Hermes or Mercury. Is that insurance company a western thing?TenPoundHammer wrote: Corporate for $200 threw me because, even with "Messenger of the Gods", I couldn't think of a Mercury company that had anything to do with teens driving. Tricky clue IMO.

Why do I always nail FJs with evil categories? They trick me into thinking I have no chance, then I end up getting it right.

If I had to guess, I'd say she was just making sure she didn't repeat her Tiber mistake and give away the right answer for an easy rebound. I hopeecongator wrote:MISSISSIPPI???

I had absolutely no idea what era he was from. For some reason I thought he was Roman or something.econgator wrote:Ummm, yes? If he were British, he wouldn't have been much of a traitor, would he?TenPoundHammer wrote: Benedict Arnold was AMERICAN?!?

Anyone else see the "Ood" category and think of this?

Absolutely. In fact I predicted several episodes featuring the Ood.Andromus wrote:Anyone else see the "Ood" category and think of this?

I said Mercury, but thinking of the Ford car. Never heard of the insurance company. My first thought was, didn't we just have a clue about Hermès, and why would it have driving tips on its web site anyway?econgator wrote: Had non clue whether to go with Hermes or Mercury. He was born a British subject, you know. From the standpoint of the Crown, he was just repenting his previous rebellion when he flipped sides.

Re: Friday, June 27, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
I was being out-buzzed so bad, I wanted to ring in and hopefully figure it out. I couldn't get it and I said something. Yes I knew it was wrong.heelsrule1988 wrote:I am offended.econgator wrote:MISSISSIPPI???
I think I hated myself after the Tiber question. I rang in and I knew the answer, but for some reason my mind went blank.
I'll admit there were some terrible guesses on my part.
In her Redditt interview, Julia said that after playing game after game by time the Friday show rolls around, your brain turns to mush. That is what happened here. I was pretty brain dead. I think it would have mattered much- this was a bad mix of categories, I was getting out buzzed. I got desperate, rang in with some bad guesses, and didn't have a clue on FJ.
Oh and I'm glad Jill won and Sunil. Nothing personal, because Sunil is the nicest, sweetest guy in the world, but if I were going to lose my Jeopardy title to someone, I really didn't want to lose it to a guy who went to Duke.

Re: Friday, June 27, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Does that thing that Jennifer was doing tonight and last night (buzzing in quick then hemming and hawing while hoping the answer will come before time expires) ever work as a consistent strategy? Seems to me that it's worse than not ringing in at all.
