Why didn't they just sya "State Wests?" No ambiguity there, and it's really not hard to learn cardinal directions.

Cooper's mistake: There's an "ant" in 'information' but no "B."

My FJ answer: "What is John Green's book with the light blue cover that they mentioned briefly on one episode of Season 2 of Orange is the New Black?" They probably wouldn't accept it, but in my defense there's no room for ambiguity

Jeff, if you haven't abandoned us now that your TV appearance is over, what was that symbol on your board on FJ?

Presumably you've heard of the concept of states' rights?

Yeah, but was the pun worth the ambiguity is my question, and I don't think it was.

Alex quantified it at the start: (Alex: You give us the state that is directly to the left of the state we give you.)
That also pretty much ensured you weren't getting a state like Idaho or Arizona. Every state given had exactly one state on its western border.

Also, "west" is just as nebulous as "left" without the qualification. Just like every state is "left" of Maine, every state is "west" of Maine.

It was a shrugging stick figure.

(Alan: What is homeopathic medicine?)
(Alex: Well...we are going to accept that, our judges say. He's a [*].)
Finally catching up and just saw this game. (Haven't seen second part of the 2-day final yet, so keep yer fat yaps shut about that. ;) ) Cannot BELIEVE they accepted this response. How was there no discussion here?

Homeopathic medicine is a wrong response. Yes, Hawthorne was familiar with homeopathy, which existed in his day if not in Hester Prynne's. Some critics see Chillingworth's brand of medicine as existing in tension between clinical and homeopathic practice. Alan may have been recalling a classroom discussion on the subject when he gave his oddly specific response. It's still a case of TMI = Wrong.

Searching the web for information on this was interesting as usual. Among other things I turned up a link to a forum with a thread titled "Jeopardy Jews Cheat for Chosen Competitor in Teen Tournament". Umm... I gotta admit that's an angle I completely failed to consider.

Bachman-Turner Overdrive?
Yes. My second choice was Al Jolson. I'll say no more.

Seems to me like you dug up a good reason to accept it.

It's at least a good reason to consider accepting it. I still come down on the side that says it's incorrect. But I admit I began my research with that bias. I was surprised to find that any plausible argument could be made.

And... (spoilered on the off chance that someone is even less caught up than I am)
