NOT EXACTLY CANNIBALISM

2: Dry toast and a peach dessert were both named for this opera star by Auguste Escoffier.

4: This beef dish named for a British war hero is beef wrapped in puff pastry and served with a Madeira sauce.

6: Now commonly used as a pie crust, this food was originally touted by its inventor as a curative for “impure thoughts.”

8: These baked goods date back to 1487, when the profile of Holy Roman Emperor were stamped on top of them.

10: During the Korean War, the US Army code name for mortar shells were these chewy candies named for the daughter of Leo Hirschfeld, their inventor.

MARCH & ANTHEM COMPOSERS

3: A melody he wrote in 1791, the last one he completed before his death, Kochel 623, was adopted as the Austrian national anthem in 1946.

6: Chester Arthur commissioned this composer to write “Semper Fidelis,” a march designed to replace “Hail to the Chief.”

9: His score for the 1952-53 NBC series “Victory at Sea” included a march called “The Turkey Shoot.”

12: After returning from London in 1795, he wrote a melody for the poem “God save Franz the King” that would become the German national anthem.

15: First performed in 1895, the first movement of this German composer's Resurrection Symphony contains a twenty-minute funeral march.
