THINGS PAINTED BLUE

2: This artist made extensive use of blue in “Starry Night” and “Irises.”

4: Han blue was the predominant color used by ceramicists and potters in thus country from the eleventh century BC through the third century AD.

6: In 1901, this Spaniard turned an already-completed work on its side and painted “The Blue Room” over it.

8: During the Renaissance, artists often depicted this Biblical woman clothed in a shade of blue called ultramarine, made by grinding lapis lazuli into a powder.

10: This abstract expressionist, who typically numbered his paintings instead of titling them, later gave “Number 11, 1952” the name “Blue Poles.”

POP MUSIC OF 1988

3: This former Beatle's last number one hit was a cover of “Got My Mind Set On You” from his 1987 solo album “Cloud Nine.”

6: After the success of “Sweet Child O' Mine,” this band re-released “Welcome to the Jungle,” the first single off its album “Appetite for Destruction.”

9: Roll on to the next clue if you can't remember this artist, whose song “Never Gonna Give You Up” was #4 on the year-end Billboard Hot 100.

12: Miami Sound Machine was the backup band for this artist's 1988 hits “Anything For You” and “1-2-3.”

15: Though they've been performing since 1974, this band has had only one #1 single, 1988's “The Flame.”
