A heartwarming missive from the ship's captain. Here's the part that I and some others on reddit found most notable.
We’re all getting more obsessed with stats over at “Jeopardy!”. We’re in the early stages of putting together a team to analyze all of our data (including the buzzer data, which we have been collecting for years) and publish it on Jeopardy.com.
That sounds wonderful. I've been wishing for a while that Jeopardy! would hire its own stats person so that viewers could be informed if a contestant achieves a season high, all-time high, or a personal best if they've been around a while.

Lol. Didn't even notice at the time. But it's so true.
My lucky numbers are 6, 66, and 666.

I wish they wouldn't reinvent the wheel, though. We've got a few boardies they could've hired and put to work on this. Cheezguyty and Seaborgium come to mind.

I'd also like to renew my request for a secondary audio track that can be turned on and off with announcers commenting on the game. Cheezguyty as the stats man and Seaborgium with color commentary would be awesome. Maybe bring in Keith Williams (Vermonter) for wager analysis and turn this into an hour-long rebroadcast with replays and pauses for discussion. It might not pick up a TON of viewers, but it would be pretty low cost to produce. It could also be done as a half-hour postgame show. Put it on Hulu and let local stations broadcast it on one of their secondary channels if they want.

Of course, none of these clues required any knowledge of Yiddish theater or Yiddish...only 1 clue calls for any knowledge of Judaism.
I doubt the writers expected anybody to be familiar with the Yiddish play named. Rather, they hoped someone would know the contemporary play. And, as so often on J! when the theater is invoked, that's the one that went begging...

From the Wall Street Journal 12/16/21 print edition - by Beth DeCarbo:

In January, America watched beloved “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek deliver his final clue.

The death of the iconic quiz-show host in November 2020 from pancreatic cancer left the producers of the show struggling to answer a question of their own: Who would replace Mr. Trebek?

It is a question that doesn’t yet have a permanent answer. Throughout the year they tried out 16 candidates, including talk-show hosts, a pro athlete and former Jeopardy! contestants.

Currently, two of the 16 candidates are sharing co-hosting duties into 2022. Can you identify them as well as the other candidates in this Jeopardy-style quiz? (Answers are below.)

1. This elite athlete’s road to the NFL started at a community college in California.

2. This popular morning-show host got her big-break in 1993 as an anchor on a local TV station, which closed down just 10 days later.

3. This TV personality once hosted a reality-TV show called “The Mole,” in which one of the contestants was a saboteur.

4. In 2010, this guest host underwent a colonoscopy for TV that revealed a potentially cancer-causing adenomatous polyp.

5. This TV correspondent hails from Media, Pa., foretelling his future profession.

6. On national TV, this interviewer asked for—and received—a hug from Mark McGwire, who had just hit what was then a record-setting 62nd home run in 1998.

7. This former White House staffer proposed to the woman he would marry after only two months of dating.

8. This former “Jeopardy!” contestant was nicknamed “Mr. Personality” by Mr. Trebek in 2016.

9. Born in West Germany, this onetime “Army brat” was a voracious reader of comic books as a child.

10. In a far cry from her day job, this TV and radio personality played a Georgia State Prison guard in the film “Austin Powers in Goldmember.”

11. As an embedded reporter in Iraq in 2003, this guest host performed surgery on five people, including brain surgery on a seriously injured Iraqi child.

12. This basketball hall of famer was one of Southeastern Louisiana University’s all-time leading players, with 1,446 points and 1,034 rebounds.

13. This celebrity can play the piano, trumpet and bass guitar, as well as the harp, which she learned for an episode of a popular network TV show.

14. Co-workers dubbed this journalist “The Brain” after a cactus with a rubber brain on top was put on his chair to mark his absence.

15. His tenure as the official “Jeopardy!” host ended after just one day of work after revelations of offensive comments on a podcast several years ago.

16. This record-setting “Jeopardy!” contestant was shortlisted to replace Mr. Trebek early on. Then some controversial tweets arose, for which he apologized.

ANSWERS
Spoiler
1. Who is Aaron Rodgers?

2. Who is Savannah Guthrie?

3. Who is Anderson Cooper?

4. Who is Dr. Mehmet Oz? (Trick question: In 2000, “Jeopardy!” guest-host Katie Couric underwent a colonoscopy that was aired live on the “Today” show.)

5. Who is Bill Whitaker?

6. Who is Joe Buck?

7. Who is George Stephanopoulos?

8. Who is Buzzy Cohen?

9. Who is LeVar Burton?

10. Who is Katie Couric?

11. Who is Dr. Sanjay Gupta?

12. Who is Robin Roberts?

13. Who is Mayim Bialik? (She is one of the current co-hosts.)

14. Who is David Faber?

15. Who is Mike Richards?

16. Who is Ken Jennings? (Mr. Jennings is the other current co-host.)

I hope at the TOC after contestant introductions, Steve Martin just sneaks up behind Sam, gives a wave, and walks off quietly.

Quite the conclusion they leap to at the end: Amy is a dominating Jeopardy! player because of the existence of Jeopardy! strategy discussions on jboard and reddit. Yep, clearly they nailed it.

If anything Amy is defying every bit of conventional wisdom there might be regarding how to win on Jeopardy! What's the first thing people always say you have to know because the show asks about them constantly? U.S. Presidents. What's the best piece of strategy for gameplay? Search for the Daily Doubles as they are the most important clues, and use them yourself or at least keep them away from your opponents.

Yeah, that article is all kinds of silly. There is no reason to assume that easier clues would lead to more long-running champs (the opposite might well be true). And if the super-champ trend is instead, as the author concludes, a generational change brought on by Internet discussion boards, then why was last season so different, with no one winning more than seven games until Matt?

The simple reason for all the super-champs this season is that the contestant coordinators have chosen some exceptional players to appear on the show this season. Good strategy has had little or nothing to do with it. Jeff mentions that Amy does not play strategically (she has admitted as much). Moreover, and the point that totally obliterates the article's argument, her run and those of the other super-champs this season have been facilitated by lack of strategic play by their challengers. When you're playing someone who is clearly better than you, it's even more imperative to find the Daily Doubles and wager appropriately. Most contestants appear to have no interest in doing those things, so most of these games are over before they start.

And on another note, this...

Hah! At least it's gentle shade. She basically says, "They're probably very smart about the things they teach, they just don't know all the stuff Jeopardy! wants them to know."
...you don’t just need to “know stuff,” you need to know the right stuff. Jeopardy! is currently airing a tournament for college professors, meaning that they are essentially professional knowers of stuff, and yet their performance has not been particularly elite. Jeopardy! rewards breadth of knowledge, not depth.
