Monday I guessed Virginia, but felt that I should have had Alaska as soon as it was revealed.
Thursday I managed to get bulkhead to avoid getting skunked on "Come Sail Away".

Went with S. Carolina (Calhoun) Monday
No guess on Tuesday, lucky correct guess on Wednesday
Thursday close to instaget, Friday was an instaget

3/5 on sailing terms, missed yardarm (thought they were looking for something more technical) and had a brain freeze on bulkhead.

Not sure I've gone 5/5 in a ToC week before. Certainly not 8/8. Thanks, Mark!

Guessing 'set' vs 'run' spoiled my first 5/5 TOC run, dangnabbit!
Consolation prize taking 5/5 on a RUN for Come Sail Away;
Precalled "Lateen sail"; "This old-school low-tech Roman sail made it possible for Bart Dias to round Cape of Good Hope in 1488."
Again 'Jib' is a TS. Inconceivable (O I don't think that word means what I think it means...)
The corridors of my mind are plastered with 3M Post-It notes!

This was a weird week for me. I don't usually do very well with Final Jeopardy! But somehow I got two FJ!s correct. Was this just an easy week? It doesn't seem likely given that it's a ToC week.

I had Honshu and Kyushu and couldn't think of another island to match either of them. :-/

Bulkhead for 1/5; probably could've gotten more (yardarm, tiller) if I had more time, but it wasn't coming in that short a window.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Tues considered set before deciding that it's more commonly used as a noun, then switched to act
Thurs knew it was Honshu but blanked on Hokkaido
Did not think for a minute that the FJ on opera would be hard, even in a tournament, and of course it wasn't
I love the word uvula...
I didn't do so well on FJs this week, but the only game I thought was hard was Tuesday's, where I took so many bad guesses on stuff I thought I should know but didn't that I nearly was in the red at the end of round 1 and had barely caught up with Rani and Andrew by FJ...

Habeas Corpus didn't come in time (aren't all familiar Latin phrases legal terms?). I knew both "run" and "set" were up there and luckily, I considered both. Had no very precise idea when the first Engelbert Humperdinck lived but operatic title siblings was a narrow enough set to consider.
I'm smart and I want respect.
