As a concession to workers during an 1894 railroad strike, President Cleveland created this U.S. holiday

Shorten the clue to workers holiday. That is of course Labor Day.
Because that automatically assumes it was a workers' themed holiday.

And you've been celebrating the process of giving birth all these years?

Still unanswered from Friday:
WLT Roman, Yosemite, or Netherlands at the top box?
Hey, if you don't know why people didn't answer you from Friday you aren't gonna know these.

Alaska only has one congressional district - the entire state. So it has to be the largest.

Not necessarily. The largest X is not always in the largest Y. By that logic, the largest EVERYTHING is in Alaska because it's the largest. And of course, this requires that you know that Alaska has only one congressional district to begin with.
Yes, it does require you know Alaska has only one congressional district to begin with, (and that Alaska is the biggest state) but Teapot's logic is sound.

Alaska has only one congressional district.
Alaska is the biggest state.
Therefore, Alaska is the biggest congressional district.

What you wrote is twisting his words around.
Just like how the capital and largest city in New Zealand are both on the larger of the two islands of NZ... oh wait, that's wrong.

Again. Not knowing that AK only has one congressional district means that it could theoretically be any large state.

After all, is the biggest county in the US in Alaska? Is the biggest city in the US in Alaska? Is the biggest McDonald's in the US in Alaska? They must be, because AK has the biggest congressional district.

Alaska is more than double the size of the second-largest state, so for it to not be right, it'd have to have a ton of separate districts, but it's also nearly the least-populous state so there's no reason for that sort of division.

The biggest county (equivalent) IS in Alaska. It's a bit larger than Montana and over 7 times the size of the largest county in the lower 48.

The biggest city IS in Alaska. Sitka is larger than Rhode Island. Alaska's capital, Juneau, is the second-largest city in the US. (You meant population? Yeah, not so much. More people live in Indianapolis than in the entire state of Alaska. Part of the reason it only has one congressional district.)

Geez man, we're talking about congressional districts, not cities or counties (though apparently they are too).

Again, follow the logic, of course it does require you to know how many congressional districts it has. But even if Alaska had 2 congressional districts, one of them would still be the biggest.

We've been over this before, but sometimes you just have to take a guess on the most likely answer without knowing for sure you're going to be correct. Alaska was the most likely answer in this case.

Then why did all forms of logic backfire on trying to figure out which of NZ's two islands is bigger? Surely it must be the one with the capital on it? The one with more people on it? The one with most of the cities in NZ that I can actually name? Nope, nope, and nope.

Perhaps by remembering that NZ is upside-down, so too is the logic behind which island is the larger.

grapefruit, goose
Grapefruit: Orange and grapefruit are the two traditonal breakfast fruits, and an orange can be "sectioned" by hand so that wouldn't be monumentally impressive.

Goose: They said "silly" bird to hint at the expression "silly goose."

Grapefruit -- I've literally never eaten one, at breakfast or otherwise.

Goose -- NHO "silly goose".

I have this fantasy of kidnapping you and taking you on an extended road trip. In the car, we will listen to music you've never heard. We will stop at museums featuring exhibits of things you never heard of, and restaurants that serve food you've never eaten. In the evenings, we will go to movie theaters and see films starring actors you've never heard of.

And we will stay in any hotel in the U.S. that has free continental breakfast, and I will make you eat half a grapefruit every morning.

Yeah, it all falls apart when you start examining the idea from a realistic perspective, which is why it will remain a fantasy, much like the one where Aubrey Plaza shows up at my apartment with a pepperoni pizza.

Stop already! What is this your personal tutelage service?! We're not your Greek slaves!

States with only one Congressional rep: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming.

Least populated state: Wyoming. State with lowest population DENSITY: Alaska. 2nd least populous state: Vermont (French: Vert-mont = green-mountain).

Largest states by size: AK >TX > CA > MT

Smallest states by size: RI&PP (Longest name in smallest state, go figure!), Delaware, Connecticut, Hawaii

Largest by population: CA > TX > NY > FL

Smallest by population: WY < VT < ND < AK < SD
NB: ND has increased population dramatically since discovery of oil fields, but the roughneck frac jobber workforce is largely transient...

This is his thread. And he is who he is. He makes valuable contributions, but he also does the stuff that irritates you and others. I don't want to see him banned. You and others don't want to see the stuff that irritates you. I think this thread is a good compromise, but both sides have to use it properly. I feel this hasn't been happening lately and TPH isn't the one at fault. I'm not just talking to goatman here. There's been a lot of sniping lately and it's pointless. Anyone who doesn't like this thread doesn't need to read it. It's not a vital part of our ongoing conversation.
