It's an English word with a negative connotation. http://www.dictionary.com/browse/stigma
So? There was also a pope called Hilarius. And the other option in the clue, "Sisinnius", seems like a trap too since it's got "Sissy" in it. Another word with a negative connotation.
And you call our explanations a long way to go. You could have focused on "sin" within Sisinnius, but you got greedy in your straw-grasping efforts.
Still. There were some silly names on popes. "Stigma" is hardly a can't-miss.
At least you admit it's can't-miss.

I wouldn't make the assumption that all of J!'s viewers are English speakers. Contestants, yes, but not the audience.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

They told you they wanted a language - not their fault Jeremy didn't read it correctly. What language can they assume with certainty that you speak?

I don't know. I never did figure out if they speak English in What.

What language was the clue written in? If they wrote "Si tu parle French, (et tu le parle) tu parle cet langue" on a French version of Jeopardy!, you can be sure the correct question is "What is French?" "Quel est Francais?"

That could be solved logically with no knowledge of papal history. I like it.
What logic is there to be had?
Well, if there was a Sixtus V and VI, but not a Sixtus IV, there would have had to be a really weird reason for it. Occam's Razor it out and it's 99% likely to be the right answer.
Exactly. As seaborgium noted, there have been some screwy things related to pope names. But I would not expect them to answer us about an oddball situation where a name/number combo was skipped for some reason unless it had resulted in a huge story recently. So there not being a Sixtus VI should be obvious.

On a side note, if you (meaning anybody reading this) get the call, familiarizing yourself with pope names might be a good thing to do as they come up from time to time.

So apparently what I'm getting is that most of these clues run on moon logic.

You ever hear that joke about the guy who calls his wife on her cell phone to warn her that some idiot is driving the wrong way on the freeway? And she says, "It's not just ONE idiot! There's HUNDREDS of them!"

See that's the part I think rubs people the wrong way - when it's the quiz's fault rather then the quizee's.

The Warren Commission concerned investigating the assassination of JFK, so LBJ, the man who became president.

FOREVER 'YOUNG" was intended to give players and viewers a little help. It failed you for the Ohio city and Chris with his missed DD for a steeper penalty.

Why wasn't "selling alcohol" BMS'd if they accepted "selling alcohol on Sundays"? I saw no way to choose between the two anyway.
Some states' blue laws single out alcohol. "Selling alcohol" by itself is wrong because by definition, no blue laws completely prohibit it.

Unless you don't know the history of popes. Some numbers have been skipped, so it's easy to go "well, Sixtus VI is blatant negbait, because why else would something that obvious be that far down the board? Must be IV or V."
