Don't I feel stupid. I thought, "the only one I know for certain is Notre Dame" and didn't bother to take a second look at it. If I had looked at the shot for 5 or 10 more seconds, I would have realized it was the Montreal version, which I took several pictures of barely a year ago. I pretty much took that exact shot myself.

Its strange how one can be impressed by architecture when at the site, but then take it for granted in a picture.

When I submitted my answers I forgot that the drop option was there and ended up giving an answer for every question, even the ones where I couldn't even come up with a sheepish answer. Oopsies.

I can't believe my change in luck with the last few TDs. I've been doing much better. I wasn't going to say anything because I used a drop for question one, since I was clueless on that, but I'm still in the lead. When I was younger I had a backpack and a Eurail train pass and spent lots of time in the backroads of Italy, which so far has helped me out.

I agree. I wanted to go with St. Mark's because it was my favorite of all the churches in Italy, but I knew it was recognizable. I instantly recognized Siena, but only because I've been there. I figured that one would not score high because the only people who would know it are people who have been there.

On this quiz, I was determined to use as few drops as possible, even one where I'm fairly certain I gave the Sheep answer.

Darn. I took one look at B and said 'duh, of course that's Liverpool'. It wasn't, although Liverpool is indeed a very similar design. (And I have (at least) one more incorrect coming, to go with my many sheep or near-sheep. Something tells me I'm not winning this TD.)

6. Michelangelo was born near Florence, Italy in 1475 and during his 88 years became one of the leading artists of the Renaissance, and today remains one of the most prolific artistic minds of all time, contributing masterpieces to the fields of painting, sculpture, and architecture. Name a painting, sculpture, or work of architecture created or designed by Michelangelo.

The arts is definitely not one of my strengths (as evidenced by my LL scores), but in a TD about Italy, it is a category that had to be included. (I also originally had an opera question, but decided to scrap it due to perceived lack of popular demand.) The list I was working from had 68 works attributed to Michelangelo, so there were plenty to choose from, but more than half of you chose one of the top three answers, which are probably his three most well known. If you were able to get one of his other works, you did well here.

The Accademia website lists the work as the Prisoners or Slaves. I did a tour with an art historian and she referred to it as the Prisoners.

7. William Shakespeare set a number of his plays in what is today Italy, despite there being no evidence that he ever actually visited the country. Two of these works are The Taming of the Shrew and Romeo Juliet. Name one of the 18 characters from either one of these plays that has more than 100 lines, according to shakespeareswords.com.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the characters from one of these two plays was answered more than the other. I was originally going to use The Merchant of Venice as the second play, but then I couldn't have made a movie reference to my favorite teen comedy of the 90's. There was also an interesting dichotomy between Romeo and Juliet's title characters; one was answered more than twice as often as the other, whose portrayer was never identified despite being one of Hollywood's biggest stars.
