Think Different 239: Back to Basics
Welcome to Think Different 239! The inspiration for this Think Different was a trip down memory lane, looking at the very first few Think Different competitions (a big thanks to Randy G for maintaining such an excellent archive of past TDs). Those first few were characterized by having a small set of very accessible questions. In this TD, you will similarly see a set of 12 questions designed to permit each participant to choose their answers from multiple correct answers. I fully expect that each participant will know at least one correct response to each question and most likely quite a few more. There will still be a few opportunities to draw upon your vast knowledge of a particular subject to produce an obscure answer, but the real goal of this competition is to see who truly THINK DIFFERENT and choose responses that few others do.
The Rules
1. The object of the game is to choose answers to the questions that no one else chooses (i.e., to "Think Different")
2. Each answer will receive a score equal to the number of people choosing that answer. The most popular response is designated the "Sheep" answer.
3. Your score for this game will equal the sum of the scores for each of your responses. Low score wins the game.
4. An incorrect answer will receive a score equal to that of the Sheep response for question plus 5 points. If you fail to answer a question, it will be scored as an incorrect response.
5. Because of the accessibility of these questions, I fully anticipate that everyone will be able to answer every question. Therefore, there will be no DROP or SHEEP features.
6. Send me your answers by PM no later than midnight on Sunday, April 19.
7. DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS IN THIS THREAD
8. Ties will be broken by order of submission.
9. You can ask questions in this thread but any question that would reveal a hint or an answer should be sent to me by PM.
10. Last names are fine and spelling errors will be overlooked if at all possible.

Questions
1. Name one of the 13 colonies that were signatories to the Declaration of Independence
2. Name a Canadian province or territory (13 possible answers)
3. Name one of the tragedies written by William Shakespeare. Since there is a bit of uncertainty about the status of a few of his plays, I will accept as an answer any of the plays identified as a tragedy in the First Folio as well an any play generally agreed upon today as a tragedy. (12 possible answers)
4. Name an MLB team that has played in a World Series in the period 2001-present (15 possible answers)
5. Name a film that has received the Academy Award for Best Picture in the period 2001-present. To be absolutely clear, the years refer to the dates of the Academy Award ceremony, so the films were released in the years 2000-2014. (15 possible answers)
6. Name a member of The Beatles or The Rolling Stones. Because lineups changed and some musicians were members of bands only briefly, I am considering only those musicians who played in the band for a year or more. (15 possible answers)
7. Name a current member nation of the UN Security Council (15 possible answers)
8. Name a company in the top 20 of the Fortune 500 List for 2014. The Fortune 500 list is a list published yearly by Fortune magazine of the 500 largest publicly and privately held US corporations, ranked by gross revenue. The top 20 companies are those with the largest gross revenue.
9. Name the artist who painted one of the following 15 iconic paintings. Please include the letter indicating the painting with your answer.
A. Mona Lisa (La Gioconda)
B. The Scream
C. Irises
D. Guernica
E. Girl with a Pearl Earring
F. No. 5, 1948
G. The Persistence of Memory
H. Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I
I. Luncheon of the Boating Party
J. The Night Watch
K. The School of Athens
L. The Birth of Venus
M. A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte
N. American Gothic
O. Nighthawks
10. Name one of the 15 most viewed basic cable networks in prime time
11. Name a chemical element that has a one-letter symbol (14 possible answers)
12. Name one of the 15 most common words in the English language. Because this is necessarily a fuzzy category, I will take as authoritative the frequency of words found in the Oxford Corpus, a compendium of 21st Century writings of all sorts, from "literary novels and specialist journals to everyday newspapers and magazines and from Hansard to the language of blogs, emails, and social media." It should be noted that they consider words to be lexemes, meaning that all conjugations of a verb and all declensions of pronouns and articles are treated as single entries (e.g., write, writes, wrote and writing would all be considered a single entry, as would they/them/their)

The early bird gets the worm. Or at least the tiebreaker. [Fingers crossed]

My bad. I must have skipped over your names when updating. No worries, though, your entries are in the spreadsheet.

Just under 24 hours to go. Amazingly, there are still singletons to be had in virtually every category. Get your answers in before the deadline!

I'm curious, how easy is the artist question for most people? I only know 5.

The other 3 I don't even have a visual of the piece in question.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
