CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS

Alex: You couldn't see it on camera, but Dani Cook is wearing two sets of engagement and wedding rings. What's the story?

Dani: So, I have my, uh, engagement ring and my wedding ring that my husband gave me, but I also wear my grandmother's engagement ring and wedding ring to remind me that she's looking out for me all the time. And she was a huge Jeopardy! fan, so she'd be really happy.

Alex: I was just going to say, she must have been very important in your life as well.

Dani: She was. She was.

Alex: Grandparents are special to the kids.

Dani: Very special.

Alex: They are the barriers between my children... and me.

[Laughter]

Alex: Salvatore Parente from Sunrise, Florida.

Salvatore: Yes.

Alex: A glazier.

Salvatore: That is correct.

Alex: Which means?

Salvatore: I work with glass products.

Alex: What kind of glass specifically?

Salvatore: What we do is--I work for a company--we distribute shower door, uh, stalls glass to the shower door industry, to the trade.

Alex: Shower doors. Well, that's heavyweight stuff.

Salvatore: Yes.

Alex: Yeah. Okay. Good to have you with us.

Alex: Greg Seroka, I think--he is our champion, and he has a thing for bullfighting because he was in Spain--I assume--when you were trying to run with the bulls?

Greg: We were. We went to Pamplona for the festival, and we tried to run with the bulls. We posted up along the--the course. But we were a little bit too far down the course for the Spanish police, so they very politely made us exit the course. And by "politely", I mean not politely at all.

[Laughter]

Alex: Did you ever get to run with the bulls?

Greg: No, I still haven't.

Alex: Good for you. [Laughs] That--that--that--believe me, that's a positive. [Laughing] That's a positive. There are some things that we should not do--

Greg: Maybe you're right.

Alex: --no matter how much sangria you have consumed beforehand.

[Laughter]

JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE

Please no more clues read by Puss in Boots.

I got FJ right as a guess, was wondering how they would define "hit" movie. It was a long time gap between the two movies and was worried I had forgotten one.

I used to be a big fan of The Simpsons. I felt they jumped the shark when they had every celebrity and their dog guest star on the Simpsons, and the show about "an average blue collar worker and his family" started to get less realistic (no blue collar worker I know has met half of IMdB's roster).

This was, imho, Jeopardy's jumping the shark. I still love the show, but they're On Notice now that if that keeps up, it just isn't the same show any more.

Given my non-familiarity with Americana surprised I ran "BACK OF THE BILL" - except for $400: I actually knew that Jackson was on the $20 and guessed the Hermitage. So my wrong answer was even pretty impressive considering. (And got $1000 because a US$2 was the most recent piece of paper US currency I've seen, since I own a couple of them and have them in my house, I don't have to travel to another country to see one easily like the others.)

EAR NOSE THROAT $800: "Stirrup" was given, I said "stapes", given that they said "most popularly known" would I get credit for it?

CZECH COMPOSERS $1200: "Funeral dirge" for "funeral march"?

Oh come on, did you have to *play* "Entry of the Gladiators"? That made it a lot more easy than it could have been.

Didn't like the term "hit" in FJ, doesn't really define it, I knew, for example, that "It's Pat" didn't qualify, but I didn't know if my answer of "Coneheads" did. It obviously wasn't as much of a hit as "Wayne's World", but it was a bigger hit than "It's Pat", so ... ?

Great to see another boardie (Salvatore, aka mrsal) play. Looks like you were beaten on the buzzer a lot in DJ, perhaps the CCs helped Dani (and maybe Greg) with their buzzer technique? (It looks like you have a bit of Native American in your ancestry?)

I said Coneheads as well, calling it a solid guess. Turns out Wayne's World was 1992 and Coneheads was 1993 - so close!

My problem with Puss was that it was hard to understand what he was saying. I gave poor eyesight, so the text being smaller was hard to read and the background if the animation didn't help. Plus he was creepy to look at.

Congratulations, Greg, on your fourth win! I had 37 correct responses including four triple stumpers: The Supremes, quibble, major axis, and Nova Scotia. I also got the missed DD of Newcastle. I didn't get FJ; I guessed Coneheads instead.

Wow at this response to the Puss in Boots category.

I thought the clues were a bit long winded (especially Don Quixote), but it was without a doubt a fun category.

Seriously, I find this as "shark-jumping" as when Michelle Obama read clues or when Celebrity Jeopardy became a thing.

The wording in FJ was a little vague. It helped that Wayne's World was the second SNL movie, period. No other films came out between BB and WW.

The success of Wayne's World caused a quick flood of increasingly terrible and unsuccessful films based on sketches (Wayne's World 2, Coneheads, It's Pat, Stuart Saves His Family). Had the clue been worded something closer to "Blues Brothers was the first movie based on an SNL skit, this 1992 hit was the second" I think it would have been a little more clear.

Coneheads certainly isn't a bad guess, since the time frame was very close to Wayne's World, but you'd have to stretch the definition of "hit" pretty far. Coneheads only grossed ~$21M lifetime domestic box office, including $7M in it's opening weekend (good for 6th place - http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/ch ... =30&p=.htm)

Wayne's World on the other hand was #1 for five straight weeks in 92, finished 8th in domestic gross that year (making $121M, which was more than Basic Instinct, A League of Their Own and Unforgiven)

Here's a full list of SNL movies by box office returns...outside of Blues Brothers and both Wayne's World films the list gets pretty rough, even though MacGruber is criminally underrated.

After a miss yesterday, I reset my FJ! streak back to 1. Pretty easy.

I got that last Daily Double here at home, but I fear that in the studio I'd have second-guessesd myself into sticking Thailand in there someplace.

Were there any SNL based movies between Blues Brothers in 1980 and Wayne's WOrld in 1992. COneheads didn't come until 1993 despite being from a 15 or so year old skit at the time. WOnder if the unrevealed $1000 mountain clue in the first round was about Everest given recent events there. It's becoming a bit less likely for MIchael Bilow or Elliott Yates making the TofC now.

Those are OK, MicheleObama is no different than Sandra Day O'Connor, Laura Bush, or CNN reporters reading clues, being prominent people and J! deals with prominent people. Celebrity J! I tolerate because regular people seem to like it (which is why it runs during sweeps). But Puss In Boots isn't even a real person!

Shortly before the Sony board went down (or maybe it was on Sony board 2.0 during its brief existence) there was a poster who had several posts saying J! should have the Muppets on the show answering in character. I scoffed mightily at that (to myself), now I'm starting to wonder ...

Czech (2), 2 Sy (0), From (2), Monty (5), Imperial (4), Dogs (0)

Lach Trash: "Newcastle"- DD

I went with Coneheads instead, and I didn't think of Wayne's World at all. Preceded Wayne on the show, but afterwards on the big screen.

Looks like when it rains, it pours on the show as of late. Greg's the 4th person to win at least 4 games since March 2nd and before that, there were only four all season to reach the mark. Reminds me of last season when Sandie, Arthur, Julia and Molly Lalonde had their runs in close proximity to each other. Probably not an important statistic, but one I found interesting, nonetheless. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if Greg won at least a couple more since he's been very impressive so far.

Instaget FJ. Loved Alex's church lady impression before the reveal.
