Re: LL65 (For the LLamas amongst us)
I'm not sure if I would have gotten Lewis and Clark if we didn't have a nice statue of York at our waterfront here in town.
Not many people can say they've lost four times on Jeopardy!.

I apologize for doing so poorly and making you look bad.Bamaman wrote:I knew the bit about Hawaii and Spam so that was easy for me.
I was playing someone from Baltimore, so it was easy to choose my zero points defense. I win even if I had given him three, but it helps my MPD rating. Only one I missed was Lewis and Clark, I said Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
After starting in next to last place, I have zoomed to the top after just one match. I doubt it lasts long, however.
1. Didn't know what "accoutrement" meant. Guess I need to read more books with fancy words.
2. I possibly would have gotten this right due to the pony when I was five, but not now.
3. Pineapple
4. "Okay, American, British and French names." #6 is world history, so this must be American History because Thorsten wouldn't do the same category twice in one day. (I made a correct assumption there based on an incorrect guess of what the category for #6 would be.) I decided it must be later than Lewis and Clark, since I figured that most people in history are adults, and I thought that in around 1803, someone who was named after Alexander Hamilton would probably be pretty young, so I didn't really consider anything that early.
5. Not a movie buff. "Preakness Cafe" was as well as I could do.
6. Although I am a rookie, I had looked at a fair number of past LL questions before the season started. I saw Charlemagne, remembered this question, put Aachen, and didn't really pay attention to the rest of the question. I suppose that was a good lesson for the remainder of my LL career.
EDIT: I thought the pony was vaguely familiar from when I was five or six when I saw the answer, but it turns out that Trixie the pony didn't exist at that time.

As long as you don't forfeit, it doesn't make your referrer look bad. Sorry you had a bad debut.
I got Trixie from Ed Norton's wife, the others didn't help me. I have also never seen that movie, but knew it was set in Baltimore. Frankfurt was a coin flip over Hamburg. I had never heard that word before, but knew the rule about wearing helmets was put in place around 1979 and someone retiring in 1997 was probably it.

Yeah, I actually thought of Aachen first, too, but realized Aachen couldn't possibly be the "main world financial center of continental Europe." I went through the major German cities and when I thought of Frankfurt realized that would be a good bet because of the name as much as anything.countyguy wrote: I saw Charlemagne, remembered this question, put Aachen, and didn't really pay attention to the rest of the question. Trixie was really easy for me as I saw the movie version of Speed Racer Saturday (not bad. kinda wish I saw it in theaters; it's shiny, but on the other hand, wouldnt be worth the travel time and ticket)...I would have eventually got it from Trixie the Magnificent alone (rather than confirmation) but that would've taken some processing time.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

I've seen enough past questions to know that I'm probably going to be pretty bad most days. Hence I said that I was probably going to be an E-rundler in that initial PM requesting a referral.Bamaman wrote:As long as you don't forfeit, it doesn't make your referrer look bad. Echoing the following:
1. Forgot about Hawaiians/SPAM, though I had heard it before. (Maybe it would've stuck if I ate pork? I dunno.)
2. Also guessed taro.
3. Got to Lewis & Clark from the mix of French and English names, but almost talked myself out of it because of the Alexander Hamilton thing.
I referred 2 players this season. Both won, while I lost. One of them drank the beer in his first outing.

Rookie LLama here.
Rundle R Highland Div 1
Match Day 2 was pretty solid for me, only missing out on Q3.

Re: LL65 (For the LLamas amongst us)
In a lot of cases, I'd be frustrated to tie with an 8(5). And I don't know, maybe up in the ether of an A Rundle, you can't expect to win with 5 correct. But against an opponent of that caliber, I'd take my 1 point for a tie any time.teapot37 wrote:I'm running into RutterB on Day 2. So I'll be getting the season off on a high note...

I played randyg and instantly knew to assign the zero to the musicals category, which paid off. The wheelhouse scouting strategy works out pretty well.

Curse you, FrumkinJ. Figures you're a closet discomaniac.
And NelsonK in second place? Something is terribly wrong here.
And seriously, i think there were 6 BWAs. I didn't find one of them remotely funny. I really wonder about Thorsten.

Especially since "Sandwiches of Secretariat" didn't even get the nod for LL65 MD1 Q5.alietr wrote: And seriously, i think there were 6 BWAs. I didn't find one of them remotely funny. I really wonder about Thorsten.

When you look at the list of questions from an earlier match day, clicking on one of the questions give you the question, the correct answer and the BWA if there is any.Vanya wrote:Where do you find best wrong answers?alietr wrote:Curse you, FrumkinJ. Figures you're a closet discomaniac.

I felt so proud that I remembered "the sonnet guy" from my J! study. And then I lost the match by putting down Plutarch instead of Petrarch. Awesome.
