Well I think the distinction of novel/novella is bogus anyway. All you need for fiction is novel/short story. So Of Mice and Men and The Red Pony are novels, imo.

I forgot that Led Zeppelin didn't release singles and so, for the most part, wouldn't be on the Billboard Hot 100.

Wow. None in the UK, where the band had more control, until 1997. But plenty in the US, most of which charted. So someone in the US, against the band's wishes, chose 4 tracks from Led Zeppelin IV to release as singles--Black Dog, with Misty Mountain Hop on the B-side; and Rock and Roll, with Four Sticks on the B-side. No Stairway to Heaven, even. (Probably too long. They would have had to release it with half on the A-side, half on the B as was done with American Pie.) And more important for my standings in this contest, no Goin' to California.

Whatever you want to do with the Steinbeck is fine. My first inclination was that wikipedia calls it a novella, and you stated you'd use them as the authority, though. (I originally had the Red Pony, but changed it, so I don't have a pony in the race, you might say. )

wow, thought I had no chance early on, when I was so middle-of-the-packy!
I owe my victory to working retail music in the 80s, and my cousins who weren't lying when they told me about where they lived!
I was coin-flipping Marvin and Gilbert for the finale. Had it come up tails, billie and i would've switched spots (31 to my now 32) and Volante's 32 would be 33. The fickleness of TD!

Really? Wow, I thought for sure this would approach sheep territory (second to California Dreamin' which was my other thought).

I almost went with this one. When he ammended his rules to say that songs recorded by different artists would count as one, I took that to mean some people had submitted "California Girls as sung by Roth", but went ahead and joined the sheep brigade anyway.
