Doctor Who is not my area, so after my blank answer I decided to take a refresher look at the list, since like the TD games it does not stick for long. I saw Rowan Atkinson listed for having played the Doctor in some kind of special parody. The wording of the question has enough to make him wrong and only Baker correct?

Wow, lots of us burned going for mahjong on the 15-pointer.

I should have clammed. The theme of the question set was "At the Casino". Maj-jongg is played socially, but not in casinos.

This week I kept March-ing backwards. In like a lion, out like a lamb.
I used to be AWSOP but wanted to be more theatrical.

Wow, I'm not worrying any more that the architecture questions I submitted are too difficult. I do remember Amaterasu, though, from architecture school - I took a course in which I learned that Shinto shrines are rebuilt cyclically, the new one right next to the old one, a replica. The old one is dismantled and I think that space becomes a garden until it's time to do it again. Building is part of the religion. So is a sukkah, I suppose.

No doubt to teach the impermanence of all things... except for embarrassing pictures on the internet.

Yes - I remember the story about what Amaterasu's brother did to act out his jealousy. Good thing there was no Internet then.

I would have thought in casinos in places like Macau that if might be played.

The fact that they are tiles but not dominoes per se is what saved me those 5 more points for a neg. Considering what a mess the category was for me, those were valuable points.

Yesterday I was in first place. Today I am in second place. It was nice while it lasted.

But I'm glad that I took a flyer on Baker for the alphabetically first Doctor portrayer name; I could only name David Tennant and Tom Baker, the latter because he shares a name with a ToCer. And I'm glad the clue only wanted last names, because otherwise I would have been burned by my lack of knowledge of the other Baker.
As a young teeanager, early 80's. I would watch pro-wresting (WWF, pre-Hogan) on WOR-TV out of New York on cable on Saturday mornings. Right after wrestling Dr. Who would come on, I would only watch the intro because the theme music was interesting to listen to (I'm not even saying it was good, it was different). The star was Tom Baker, he is the only Dr.Who I know. I wouldn't stand a chance at naming any of the other 8 or 12 or however many there are. Outside of TARDIS, and the fact that is has been on since the 1960's (both are really items I know from watching jeopardy) I know nothing of Dr. Who, except that Tom Baker played the lead in the late 70's, and early 80's.

Ugh, I talked myself out of Road Trip, and was one letter off on Wild Hogs.

There are at least a couple of people who specified "Tom Baker" even though the question specifically said last names. On the show, this would fall under the "too much information and it's wrong" clause for being negged. I wonder how it will be scored here. Apparently there is a Colin Baker as well, so if one extends the alphabetization, Tom Baker is wrong. On the other hand, the last name alone IS correct, and that's what the question asked for.

I disagree; I think if the show explicitly asked for 'last name', a contestant might get away with 'Tom Baker' since the superfluous information doesn't change what the last name is. Tom and Colin Baker share the first alphabetical Dr Who last name.

On the flip side, if they asked for 'First alphabetical Dr Who', 'Baker' would be BMS'd because there's two.

Yes, it does. If the question had just asked for anyone who had played the Doctor on TV, then Atkinson would have been fine, but the question asked for those who had played the Doctor on Doctor Who. That's the specific TV show. As you mentioned, Atkinson did it in a parody for Red Nose Day.

Shoot, I too was certain Mahjong was well worth a WAG (Wild Anterior Guess, i.e., off the top of my head). I recalled some forms using dominoes, and though I considered Pai Gow briefly, but only having ever played it with cards, dismissed it right away.

Yeah, this is what scared me off as well.

I, too, got worse as the week went on, I think.

If I had scored Round 1 using the Coryat method, I would have gotten $25K, which would be an all-time high for me with the exception of Kids and Teens.

Of course, I would have not gotten an all-time high under the time constraints of normal J!

This has been lots of fun so far. Thank you, SHC team, for continuing this awesome JBoard tradition!
