I ran out of space for Clint Eastwood as another popular miss on Tuesday. You can post if that was your guess and we can see if it beats the Affleck tally.

Monday: I had John Calvin, and never would have gotten to a monarch/leader in 30 seconds.

Tuesday: Zeroed in on Ben Affleck, and never would have guessed Clooney.

Wednesday: It was a 1 in 7 guess where I had no idea...and guessed Sunday.

Thursday: I guessed Luxembourg, though I didn't even think that it was a founding NATO member.

Friday: 1990 + Mississippi author only led to Grisham.

Tue - Eastwood
Thu - Luxembourg

Yossarian was on the tip of my tongue.
John Brown...wrong pavlov triggers hit.
Knew the story, knew it wasn't London.
Bet all 3 would've been LL gets, and at least two DD gets (Nat Turner would've taken a bit longer)

Denmark.

Yikes...thank goodness Grisham came along to break a bad streak.
Only knew Ottawa on the rebound.
Clammed on Tivoli because I couldn't remember which Scandinavian country had it. If I knew Italy was allowed I would have taken it.

Tuesday, said Affleck. Clooney's writing and directing noms for Good Night and Good Luck were too far in the past to be on my radar screen.

Had the Danish Tivoli gardens

Ottawa was an instaget.

Eastwood (didn't like it because Million Dollar Baby was 2004; didn't like Affleck any better, though) and Luxembourg.

I haven't seen Thursday's game because of football preemptions, but I've heard there was another example of the "The Canadian host is perpetually surprised how bad Americans are at Canadian trivia" running gag; I assume the Vickers clue was it.

Italy for Tivoli.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Thomas Cranmer / Ben Affleck / Monday / Luxembourg / John Grisham
(clammed) / Nat Turner / Ottawa
  • I'm giving myself credit for Grisham, even though I didn't see the episode (it was preempted by high school football). When I saw it here, it was an instaget.
  • I clammed on Yossarian, although "Catch-22 character = Yossarian" is pretty much a Pavlov.
  • I love the Kevin Vickers story for so many reasons. 1) Up until that day, I thought the Parliamentary Sergeant at Arms was only a ceremonial post, but in fact he is the chief of Parliamentary security and an armed law enforcement officer. 2) The gunfight was out of a John Woo movie. Vickers and the assailant were taking cover on opposite sides of the same stone pillar, exchanging fire. When Vickers heard the suspect reload, he DOVE around the pillar and unloaded a magazine into the gunman while falling, killing him instantly. 3) Shortly after the incident, Vickers was promoted to Ambassador to Ireland. (Seriously, is that not one of the primo embassy gigs? If someone tapped me on the shoulder and offered me a job as the ambassador to, um, The Gambia, it would take some serious thought and wife-convincing. But Ireland? I'd be on Amazon shopping for Gaelic Football jerseys before the sentence was over.)
  • I had Italy.

Only got Grisham because just a night or two before, A Time to Kill played on TCM with Grisham on hand to chat about the film with Robert Osborne.

Missed Tuesday's FJ with Eastwood. Haven't paid much attention lately and was unaware of Clooney's diverse talents. Got the three extras, though I would not in fact have buzzed in on Ottawa.

Richelieu on Monday. Eastwood on Tuesday. I think I said Vatican City on Thursday even though I was pretty sure it was wrong. Don't know why I missed Yossarian--I somehow forgot he was a captain, I guess. Said "Italy/other" but probably would have clammed in reality because of lack of confidence about Italy. Derp on Winchell Factor.

Nice week here coming off the heels from a pitiful 1/10 in the ToC. Got my first perfecta, and my first 5/5 in regular play since the week after the Battle of the Decades.

With my luck though, I'll probably go 0/5 next week.

I missed Wednesday's show, so it's possible I would have gotten it by dumb luck.... but, let's be honest, it's not likely.
I crossed off Clooney to write Affleck. Doh!
And I'm more disappointed in myself for missing the Winchell pun than for missing all those Jeopardy clues.
