Instaguette pour moi et sans doute pour certains autres ici qui parlent français...

Steve's got that buzzer situation down. Just gotta sort out some of his guesswork. Losing sixteen grand on those two DD's is the difference between a good furnace and a bad one.

Microgravity at $400? If you say so. And then solar panels at $800 DD? Who's in charge here?

Congrats to Steve on his third win. I had 40 correct responses including six triple stumpers: microgravity, Jefferson Davis, James Galway, The Fugitive, banyan, City of New Orleans, and Julian calendar. I also got the missed DD of tulip. Instaget FJ.

Jefferson Davis, a TS? No one grabbed the 'Julian calendar' rebound after Gregorian was negged?? No one precalled Ninth Symphony??? Ho hum.

Instaget FJ. Terre Neuve --> new land was 2/3 of the answer right there, I actually spent about 20 seconds wondering if that was too easy and I was missing something.

9 clues remaining and Lizzie chooses the only one guaranteed not to contain the remaining DD. Admittedly this irks me more than it probably should. But it very well cost her the game.

Nice to see Steve make a good wager that won him the game right or wrong.

Oui, pour moi aussi. Mais, je pense que les anglophones peuvent savoir "terre" de "terra nova" ou "terrestrial" et "neuve" de "nuevo" ou "new."

I wasn't sure it was Newfoundland, but with the translation I felt fairly confident.

Solar Panels was absurdly easy as a DD, and "Beethoven's 9th" is a reminder of how important remembering the category is. I don't know classical music that well but my thought process was "9th is not in the clue" --> "famous music with 9 in it" --> "Beethoven's 9th." (Maybe I should have considered Revolution #9) Also helping was the old story that he had to be turned around to see that he was getting a standing ovation.

Also: "Traitors" for "Betrayers" ok?

I've CLEARLY got to pay better attention to more of those teeny, tiny details in those clues...

Steve had some bad negs, and got a little lucky to win that game, but an old white guy nabbing T.I.? Fabulous get.
Also, Brian is one of the youngest looking 46-year-olds I think I've ever seen.

I also had traitors, as well as "reduced gravity" for microgravity and "cantata" for ballad in that horrific 'only a' category (can't remember the exact wording). Judges?

I also went straight to dahlia, knowing full well that Haarlem is a Dutch city and that could only mean tulips. This is why omgwheelhouse took a little extra time on DDs even if he was sure he knew.

33 right.

Got (2), Space (1), Last (4), CA "O" (4), James (3), Dwarf (3)
Flower (3), Train (4), Record (3), World (2), Ninth (4), "A" Vowel (0)

Lach Trash: "Jefferson Davis", "City of New Orleans", "Ninth Symphony", "Julian calendar"

Not instant, but a quick get due to a successful translation.

I must be getting senile. I thought the 1986 World Series was decided in Game 7, but he was there so I guess he knows.

Some bad negs by Lizzie cost her a lock. I got FJ after rejecting Nova Scota.

Um...it was (Mets - Red Sox. It was 'decided' in gm 6 only if you buy into the idea that the Sox were doomed after the Buckner play). Am I missing something?

What an easy FJ. Did no one else get the memo that Canadian geography is essential J! knowledge, including the names of the provinces in French?

I think I blew the Police clue with "atom bomb."

I didn't even remember the category after Steve ruefully drew attention to it. My thought process was "that's a pretty famous Beethoven anecdote and it has to be about the ninth symphony specifically because there's a chorus involved." Plus 1824 is the right time frame. Plus, if you don't know the anecdote, you still know Beethoven went deaf and that's a plausible reason for telling the performers to ignore the composer's conducting. Add all that to the category name and this DD was served up on a platter of TOM.

Traitors definitely. Reduced gravity, probably not. That's seems like a paraphrase of words in the clue and they were looking for a term of art. Cantata, no way. The clue specified something about telling a story. A cantata can do that, but it's not at all required or expected.

My precall for the ONLY A category was Kazakhstan.
