I thought it was a standard trivia chestnut that Montpelier has a four-digit population and is the smallest capital city. I mean, Juneau is an attractive answer because of its inaccessibility and I won't fault anyone for guessing it, but scoffing at the idea that a Jeopardy hopeful would be expected to know that Montpelier is tiny makes it seem like there isn't much hope for you.
Considering the caliber of some of the people in the game thread who missed this one, your statement is hyperbole at the very least. We all have "trivia chestnuts" that we haven't heard until we hear them. Of course I knew that Montpelier is small but so are some other capital cities like Augusta (population under 20,000). With the possible exception of Austin Powers and Schliemann and a couple others, we all have holes in our knowledge bases, which we do our best to plug over time.
I wasn't commenting on the fact that you missed FJ. How many of the people (of whatever caliber) who missed that FJ are complaining about the fact that they were expected to know Montpelier was the smallest capital? If you're trying to plug holes in your knowledge base, you should be thankful that you learned something new from that FJ.

DBear and I are thus far the only ones to guess "I Am Woman" without having known Helen Reddy was Australian.
Monday: Had it narrowed down to Chile/Argentina/Bolivia (IIRC) when time ran out.
Wednesday: Juneau (WAG)
Thursday: Jamestown (WAG)
Friday: no response
Yuck! Trapped among many wrong choices Monday, said "Springfield" Wed thinking the date ruled out the east coast (no clue on its relative size), and took about 32 seconds to recognize the significance of Dominion...But between variety show appearances and her bid for movie stardom in Pete's Dragon I feel like I've always known everything about Helen Reddy. (OK, granted, she feigns an American accent in the movie...)
Don't know Billy Vera, said electric chair, know very well who Guy Molinari was so just sluggishness there. Before this week starts, I need a little rest and recreation...
I kinda guessed on Montpelier by remembering a throwaway line in a friend of friends' play about there being no Wal-Mart in Vermont. I figured that kind of logic would just naturally stretch to golden arches...
Hippest of the square, and squarest among the hip...
Bad guess on Monday.
Not sure what I said for R&R. Was not 100% certain that Helen Reddy was born in Australia, but that would have been my best guess.
