The Cardinals came to me after a few moments, but I could think of no pitcher involved to match the facts. For 2013 I had to double check my memory that it was the Red Sox with their 3rd championship in the 21st c. Their MVP that year? I could not recall. I then considered that the clue was some kind of trick of someone from the Royals traded after the World Series. No, that made no sense as I brushed back Cueto.
Time was up and that was when I paused the game. To have someone on the paper that I knew pitched in a World Series and switched leagues I wrote Jon Lester even though I was quite sure it was not a trade that got him from the A's to the Cubs.
I would have needed a time frame hint in the clue to realize I needed to go back that far (not that it's really that long) to the Phillies WS win in 2008 to find the pitcher. Recalling big trades in 2015 was not going to work in a March frame of mind.
My hopeful precall was in the time machine variety of Rick Wise for Steve Carlton. Too bad I did not stick with thinking about Philly although knowing me I would have mistakenly added Cliff Lee or Roy Halladay in the mix for consideration.
Nasty clue. Especially with only 30 seconds.
