Alex: Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. Margaret Miles, you are a librarian, and I say this as a compliment--you have the demeanor of a librarian. You're very calm, you're very--and you know a lot. I mean, you're leading now with 7,600 bucks. What do you do for fun?

Margaret: What do I do for fun? [Deadpan] Knit.

Alex: Now tell me, where have you seen all of these performances of--is it of Bette Davis, by Bette Davis?

Hannah: By Bette Davis. Um, I've seen 118 at last count. Um...

Alex: I didn't know she made that many films.

Hannah: There's more.

Alex: Really?

Hannah: I mean, I'm missing some. I'm missing some, well, not very important or exciting ones, but I'm missing some.

Alex: And where do you get to see these? Because when we're talking about old Bette Davis films, there aren't that many places. Even Turner Classic Movies will not show all of them.

Hannah: They're starting to kind of work their way through back catalogs and release them on DVD now, which is great.

Alex: Ah. That's--

Hannah: Otherwise you have sort of less legal means.

Alex: Speaking of legal means, Carter Spires, our champ, is a law student who is also a singer in a group?

Carter: Uh, yes. Um, the--there is an a cappella group at my law school called the Footnotes, which I am a part of.

Alex: [Laughs] How appropriate for a law school. And, by the tone of your voice, are you up there, a tenor? You're not a--

Carter: Uh, baritone.

Alex: Baritone?

Carter: Mm-hmm.

Alex: And what kind of music do you guys perform?

Carter: Um, mostly pop-type stuff. We don't--we only get to practice, like, an hour a week, so we kind of do stuff that's popular and fun to make up for the fact that we're not the most polished group.

Carter: Not exactly.

But she played a most impressive game.

Kind of thinking quite a few armchair score posters are going to claim >50 right, seemed like a much easier game than normal. And FJ was preschool week.

Wow, what a performance by Margaret. I usually root for an older player, but she was especially fun to watch with a deep knowledge base. Yes, she should have gone bigger on the Lit DD, but great job otherwise.

I laughed when Alex asked her what she did for fun and she said "knitting" - she had indeed spent every free moment knitting from the time the shuttle dropped us off at the studio that morning.

That does tend to be what we do I was rooting for her from that point onwards, and the talking to cats part was just the icing on the cake.

That was one of the most impressive games I've seen in a long time - not just Margaret's performance, which was jaw-dropping at times (and didn't she run a couple of categories? I was surprised not to hear applause), but that Carter managed to pull back to a point that gave him a chance in Final.

What was the combined Coryat in this game, $50k? I think the $36,800 I had from the fourth tonight was in my personal top 5. For FJ I thought of Michigan first, then remembered the Great Lakes are connected, and got to Idaho in about five seconds. That would've been a perfect Final for Teen Tournament.
