:? :? :?

Once again, I'm sure I did something to tick Mark off, having him choose three clues I clammed on, despite my having not a bad week, Coryat wise (not to mention it being TOC week)

Had pie as a WAG that fit the quote, didn't notice the number at all (so much for that math degree...).
Knew Corday & Paderewski but couldn't dredge them to the surface of my brain fast enough. (I felt really bad about not getting Paderewski - I've been a pianist since I was five and I remember learning about him being president of Poland - probably one of my earliest bits of weird trivia knowledge...)

Zero chance on Tuesday. Should have got Friday, but didn't.

If I had about a minute, I could have come up with Paderewski.

I knew of Corday and Marat, but they never crossed my mind; I ended up saying Joan of Arc, although I was pretty sure she was wrong. I should have gotten de Havilland/Fontaine, and I even thought of them during the think music, but I went for the Redgraves. And I never noticed the numbers and said Google was taking a global piece of history.

I don't think I knew of Sofia until that clue.

I'd be mad at TPTB for breaking up my 4/5 QFs over two weeks, but last week was a 4/5 anyway (if you count the technical non-get of Communists that I think I would have gotten under better watching circumstances), and in light of my SF skunking, the best I could do is 2/5 on the second half of the ToC.

I never came near Swift for the Dean; way too many 18th century authors for me to go through. I had the Redgraves for the Oscar-nominated sisters.

At least I spelled "pi" correctly on Friday . . .

For the season:
FJ: 26-14
Extras: 11-13
TOC: 4-4
Longest FJ winning streak: 8 (active 1)
Longest FJ losing streak: 3
5/5:1
4/5:2
3/5:3
2/5:2
1/5:0
0/5:0

Lyre was an instaget.
No chance on Swift.
I had never heard of Carday.
I had the Redgraves, though I have heard of the correct questions.
I had pie on Friday.

No chance on the flower and had never heard of the Polish guy.

I said King Constatine of Greece, who is actually her brother.

Not sure I should get full credit for Friday - I came up with "pi" after my husband's guess of "pie". My eyes immediately went to the number and I think I would've gotten it, but I can't be 100% sure.

For Thursday I remembered hearing this tidbit at some point, came up with "Fontaine" almost immediately and struggled with "de Havilland" until the last few seconds - odd, since I'm much more familiar with the latter actress.

My default for "1700's poet" is Robert Burns, so I was at a total loss on that, but the others were solid gets. "Tulip/turban" is something I've seen in numerous places, but probably not before I started frequenting these boards, so there you go.

The more I think about it, Joon ought to be writing headlines somewhere -- "Apple's Pi" was more clever than what actually got published. Hope he's not kicking himself too much for being oh-so-close.

Precalled Swift, then ignored him once the clue was revealed.

Started out with Joan Fontane and Joan Crawford, then realized they probably weren't sisters. Replaced Joan Fontane with Viven Leigh.

Wow. That's pretty bad. But at least I got pi! Near instaget, too. Thought "Hmmm. piece of... pie? Hey, that number looks familiar... PI!"

But I had 3/4 of Thursdays... "Olivia de Haviland and her sister Joan!" (Though I chose wrong between Fontaine and Crawford)

Monday's was a snap once I thought of lyrics. I have only heard of "dean" in the educational sense, so no chance there. It was a first for me on Wed. as I knew who the person was but just could not think of her name. There was no way I was going to get the sisters (since I didn't know they were). I really should have gotten Friday's clue because I remember hearing about the significance of that number before, but during the think time I convinced myself that it was there as a distraction and not a hint (I finally went with "public", as in IPO).

IIRC Sofia showed up on the hardest day of last year's SHC; couldn't recall that quickly enough though. Paderewski was a new one on me, and turban was the only headdress I could think of that started with a T.
