I thought the test was a little difficult, which means I probably scored better than I thought. Felt like low-40s as I was playing, but I'd need to see the clues again to refresh my memory.

All right, show of hands--who automatically assumed the Broadway clue would be about Hamilton? (God, I hate that musical.)
There were a couple toughies on that one, plus I had brain-fade on a few late ones (variable and contradiction). Still think I got in the high 30s/low 40s.

I'm thinking it was actually "oxymoron" rather than contradiction, judges?forzagiersy wrote:All right, show of hands--who automatically assumed the Broadway clue would be about Hamilton? (God, I hate that musical.)

I think you are right on oxymoron - I blanked and the best I could come up with was paradox.

I think that was the easiest of the three, I officially took this one tonight...I misread the continent question as second smallest instead of second largest...Oxymoron is what they wanted. I think I got 39-41 based on Jeff's answers. Did they want Thoreau instead of Walden? I assume Colder is good enough for Calder. I put Eggert for Eggers I think, they would probably not accept it...The other two tests I got 34-35 taking it after the fact.

Easiest of the lot? Felt that way for me, a complete shock since I was taking it for real. I'll have to wait for the transcript but I'm pretty confident that I got upwards of 45. I had a couple of guesses, one total blank and couldn't pull Krugmans name in time (Milton Friedman kept getting on the way). Now to see which state has the motto "North to the Future"

Same. One day I'll freaking remember Calder... One of those names that's used -just- often enough for me to have forgotten the last time he was used...9021amyers wrote:I thought the test was a little difficult, which means I probably scored better than I thought. Jeff's list looks right, so I'm at 43, 44 if they accept "Miers"

The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

Looks like 36 for me. Not my best ever, but the second time I've put up a theoretically passing score, so I'm glad tonight was when I took it for real, at least.

I guessed Hamilton just because I couldn't come up with anything else in time.forzagiersy wrote:All right, show of hands--who automatically assumed the Broadway clue would be about Hamilton? (God, I hate that musical.)
Anyways, I'm pleased with my performance on this test. I was quick and accurate on the word clues, and didn't blank or have a horrible miss on a single clue, something which has happened to me at least once on every previous test. The ones I missed were ones I genuinely didn't know, although I would have probably gotten "Dave Eggers" a few years ago. (Never read the book, though) Oh well.

I put down Friedman (Thomas) as the NYT columnist.Woof wrote:Easiest of the lot? Felt that way for me, a complete shock since I was taking it for real. And the state motto is Alaska.

For me this was the "easiest" of the online tests I've taken, it's possible that I finally attained the magic number of 35.

I thought it was Thomas Friedman as well...The Danube question was on of the posts about studying for the test...

Looks like I missed 3 (ions), 11 (managed "all" and "love," but couldn't work out the middle), 20 (don't remember what I wrote, but that wasn't it), 25 (brainfarted and wrote Charlotte Amalie), 27 (The Road Not Taken), and 50 (brainfarted and wrote "enigma" just to have something).Volante wrote:Same. 44 out of 50, but I haven't been invited for an audition since 2011, and I don't even remember which city I chose as my preference; I'm not getting my hopes up.

There was no city choice this time, they will do it by the zip code on your profile.

Started strong (21/24), ended not so strong. 37/50. I should have had oxymoron and St. Thomas, but my mind went totally blank trying to pull them both. Did someone post about 21 Pilots in the year in review thread? I remember someone posted about them, but I didn't remember why they were important. Oh well.

Transcript here - couldn't get to it until Friday morning. Probably around 45 on this one for me, although taking it off of the twitter feed it's hard to be sure exactly how I would have done with the full 15 seconds per question. All in all, I'm very glad I took it on Tuesday for real.
