CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS

Alex: At a certain point in everyone's life, birthday presents can be a problem, but not for Kat Lewin's fiancé. He came up with something unique.

Kat: He did. Also, I think his mom--his mom's here. She just found out we're engaged right now.

Alex: Ah.

Kat: Um, my very romantic fiancé, Taggert, um, for my last birthday commissioned a series of custom paintings based on phrases I'd said when I was falling asleep.

Alex: Mm-hmm.

Kat: So my favorite is, uh, there is Batman's head on Mount Rushmore, and there's kind of a little doll hanging out of his nose. 'Cause I rolled over one night and I said in my best Christian Bale impression, "I sneeze dolls like you for breakfast."

[Laughter]

Kat: So that's in our kitchen now.

Alex: [Laughs] Okay.

Alex: All right, Georjean McKeeman.

Georjean: Right.

Alex: From Prescott, Arizona. A traveling woman because you have visited, in terms of our national parks, or national areas, which is it?

Georjean: It's the National--it's all the National Park Service areas.

Alex: So that includes what?

Georjean: It includes national parks, national monuments...

Alex: Ah.

Georjean: ...national seashores, national lakeshores.

Alex: There are over 400 of them, aren't there?

Georjean: There are over 400. 411.

Alex: How many have you visited?

Georjean: 316.

Alex: Well... get going, lady. I mean, come on.

[Laughter]

Alex: You're slacking off, aren't you?

Alex: All right, Chuck Dunn is a mathematics professor. And he originally wanted to be a professional trombone player. And I understand you still play in a group of trombonists.

Chuck: I do. I play in a--it's the Rose City Trombones. Um, yeah, but I'd wanted to be a professional trombone player until my last year of college. Then I kinda realized, it's gonna be easier to have mathematics as a career and music on the side than the other way around.

Alex: Okay.

TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND

WABC-7 NYC played Tuesday's Nov. 8th episode, with Alex in the intro saying "It's Election Day, I hope everyone voted."

Guess I'll have to wait to tomorrow to add my thoughts.

WABC is showing Tuesday's episode, which I guess means we're not seeing tonight's, and we're not seeing J! tomorrow because of election coverage. Boo.

So am I allowed to discuss the show or is this for a different episode? (I saw the Election day episode)

Same here (playing the clue off the internet)

The secret bunker showed the 11/7/16 game and Alex said the Teen Tournament will start on Wednesday. I like when J! runs the tourney schedule this way just because it confuses so many people.

I won't do it although the temptation occurred to me to poll: I have used Strong's concordance.

2/3 contestants guessed Nevada. I guess the logic was picking a neighbor of CA? I had gull=Utah on the short list with nene/Hawaii, cardinal and meadowlarks in a bunch of states, Rhode Island red, roadrunner = NM and pelican = Louisiana.

Players in the day's taping pool love it when the returning champ is dethroned along with a feisty challenger leaving the victory to the player who entered the FJ! round in 3rd.

When I saw the clue I thought it was likely Georjean would get it based on her chat with Alex about all the park visits around the country.

With more than one of you having seen the Tuesday game I would send a PM to Brian and ask that he set up the Tuesday thread early as the solution for discussing the game early. Right, please no 11/8 spoilers in this thread. Much obliged.

I got the Tuesday episode too, but played this off the internet earlier in the day and remembered a seagull/Mormon pioneer connection so went with Utah.

Thanks to the bunker I also just watched this game. For me, it was a coin flip between Utah and Nevada with no information to go either way.

I'm guessing I saw the Monday episode, since it matches the FJ! clue listed. Aside from memorizing a list of state birds, I have no idea what was supposed to lead me to Utah, though. I guessed Arizona, hoping for the best. Never would have thought to guess a state not bordering California.

Not sure if it was just me, but the Double Jeopardy! board seemed really easy today.

Here are five past clues with varying degrees of tying-in to tonight's FJ! clue:

#6034, aired 2010-12-02 CHRISTIAN DENOMINATIONS IN THE U.S. $800: This group, now 5 million strong, was once saved by seagulls
#4527, aired 2004-04-20 OFFICIAL STATE CREATURES $400: Though Utah's not on the ocean, this is its state bird
#2348, aired 1994-11-16 AMERICAN HISTORY $300: Mormons say divine intervention sent these birds to stop a cricket infestation in 1848
#1427, aired 1990-11-13 BIRDS $1,000 (Daily Double): In 1848 this bird saved the crops of Utah by eating swarms of grasshoppers
#731, aired 1987-11-09 UTAH $100: Having saved early Mormon settlers from an invasion of katydids, it's now the state bird

I am guessing that that would create more issues than it would solve.

However, if somebody wants to start a discussion in a new thread, we (the mods, which actually doesn't include me) can merge the threads or move those posts to the new thread after the fact.

For Cuba Gooding Jr. occupation in "Jerry Maguire" I said "athlete." Would that have been OK or would I have gotten BMS? Because I'm not sure I would have come up with football player.

I wonder if that "A Change Is Coming" category was a prediction about tomorrow's election?

I wonder if "Who is my neighbor?" would have been adequate for the Katie Ledecky question.

Thanks to opus, as always, for today's episode. And here I thought it was tomorrow's I'd be begging for...
I thought it was odd that Kati was allowed just "Communist Party" for her DD. I mixed the dates and said East German Communist Party (and I actually thought it was more likely to have disappeared entirely), but if I'd known I could get away without identifying a country I would have...
I didn't know CA was in the name but I knew the story of the seagulls in Utah.
Now I'm off to watch Tuesday's game! I'm fine with waiting till tomorrow to discuss it - it'll give me something else to do but fret about the returns...

Congrats to Georjean for squeezing in between those two sluggers to come out ahead. What a game! There was just no one to root against tonight. Happy for Georjean, sad for Chuck and Kat.

Kat in particular was beyond adorable, especially when she guessed right on the Encyclopaedia Brittanica:

So, how many of you got this right because you know the 11th edition of EB is the famous one? And how many got it right because WECIB?
