While WABC showed tomorrow's episode, WPVI showed this one. When I saw the opening of tomorrow's episode, I was spoiled on the winner of this one, and I switched to this one after the first few clues were revealed. That made it tough to keep score.
Instaget FJ. I was hoping for something obscure like, "This state bird is the only one not native to the US"
Spoiler
Show
ring-necked pheasant
or "These two variants of the same bird represent the two smallest states."
Spoiler
Show
Rhode Island Red, Blue Hen
In for a second lap

Yeah, unless you knew the 1848 "Mormon Cricket" story. The birds ate them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_of_the_gulls

Pretty cool, almost makes you wanna believe...

Good game for goats, LT: "Fine MESS; sreahawk; "older" Cartagena (Pretty sure this is AKA 'Negbait') >> Mediterranean, recognizing old world v. new world shared name; Alberta.

Here's the SLC Temple Square monument honoring seagulls for saving the Mormon nation from famine:

WECIB for me, Opus. I was shocked that FJ was only 1/3, but maybe the story of the Mormons and the gulls isn't as well known as I thought?

WECIB here.

I'd never heard of the Mormon/gull story either. Not likely to forget it now, though.

Well, sure enough, even the math professor makes a horrendous DD wager, betting just $2400 with $4400 in hand. On only a third row clue. In a speed category. Which he was confident in.

The Slumdog Millionaire clue was sadistic and cost me a perfect sweep; I said "what is a chai walla?" very confidently, not realizing that they named the actor playing the game show host, not Jamal Malik.

Got LT of mess, Andy Weir, and Mediterranean Sea. Really surprised we didn't get a rebound on "mess".

Missed the FJ, guessing "Nevada" as well.

I never knew the story, but I knew the response because while in Utah, my parents inadvertently smacked a bird with our truck+trailer on the freeway and it was possibly something from the gull family. So I'm going, "Why's a seagull in Utah?"

BMS probably

So shoot, it sounds like there will be a game tomorrow; when Alex said the Teen Tourney starts in 2 days I thought, I hoped, "Ooh, they're skipping a day!"

Nuts.

Kat seemed to be leaning the whole game. Her spine must have hurt.

NHO Kurt Russell to my knowledge, much less Backdraft.

Ran Toys & Games and Oxymoronic.

Best Sellers and Comfort were entirely over my head.

There's a Bering Sea?

So Simone Biles is $400 box material huh?

Grunt/grant was my only miss in Change. Could've gotten it from the other end, but "bestowment" was tripping me up.

No guess on FJ! How about a TOM or something, hmm?! This clue was about as wide open as possible.

Can someone please send me tomorrow's Wheel too?

I'd check that box. I could also check a box saying I've owned a Strong's concordance.

I noticed that too, but it seemed like a comfortable position for her. It didn't appear to hurt her buzzer mojo, that's for sure.

What cracks me up is that you pop up every month or so to make these dumb, off-topic posts having nothing to do with trivia. You have nothing to add about the game and you're not even funny as a troll.

I'll take TPH's posts over yours any day of the week.

Won the coin toss between Nevada and Utah, even though the California gull is the foundation of the Nevada economy.

I got Utah as a sort-of guess because I thought hey maybe they hang out by the lake. and though i did mean to poke fun, i didn't mean to be a dick. i just get a kick out of seeing your post in every game thread.

The WECIB? for me was the OED.

I was thinking that since she is from Prescott AZ, there's a decent chance that Georjean is Mormon.

OED's barely into its 2nd edition and the 3rd isn't due until 2037.

I didn't say it was the best guess.

Finally found time to watch, big thanks to our fine flightless friend.

Good game. Had I not been spoiled by seeing tomorrow's game, the outcome would've been unexpected to say the least.

The Olympic category was a nice little "were you paying attention" pop quiz. Easy 5/5 for this sports fan, even though I was too busy to watch much of it (by any means, not just NBC's time delayed padded crap).

Favorite (and surprising) LT of the day: Robert Ludlum. Never read The Aquitaine Progression, not sure I've even heard of it, but the title seemed like classic Ludlum nonsense.

The latter. Multi-volume, 'reference' work, 11th ed.? Had to be.
