Countless Catholics who have never been to Indiana consider the Fighting Irish almost a secondary alma mater (or even a primary, depending on whom you ask). And yet its actual 12-month enrollment of 12,721 only ranks it #619 in the country. According to NCED, name a Catholic college or university whose twelve-month, unduplicated enrollment ranked among the top 1000 of all colleges and universities, public and private, in 2013-14.

This was the answer I was most unsure of but figured it was worth a shot. Last two answers were my alma mater (RU) and my best friend's alma mater. One worked out pretty well, one not quite as well (but not terrible).

9. The state capital, Indianapolis, has one of the longest names of any state capital of the United States, with 12 letters. Counting cities with multiple-word names, name any state capital whose name consists of 10 or more letters. This is based on how these cities are commonly referred to; otherwise we could just add “The City of” to any capital and it would qualify.

Again, a wide range of responses, for a question that intended to see who could truly think differently (since it's a relatively easy question). The only question where nothing went unused!

Vintsanity pulls ahead a little bit, and Cat Hammarskjold reenters the mix. But there's a lot that hinges on people's recollection of major hurricanes and tropical systems within the last sixteen years.

10. I wanted to work Jeopardy! in here somehow, and this is the best way I can think of. Russ Schumacher, a Valparaiso graduate and meteorologist, won the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions in 2004. While his career brought him to teaching at Colorado State University, Valparaiso meteorology graduates have gone all throughout the country in various forecasting and operational roles, including forecasting storms like Superstorm Sandy in 2012. Sandy was so devastating that her name was retired, meaning in 2018 when that list comes up again, there will be a new “S” name. Name any Atlantic-basin tropical system that has formed since 2001, inclusive, whose name has been retired.

The only pegging I wish I would have done is making it clear that the National Hurricane Center chooses what name(s) to retire AFTER the season is over. Apologies to dott888 and GuessonGuessonGuess. The best strategy was apparently to avoid 2005; one person said they hoped they weren't being "double-bluffed" to instead go with an obvious sheep, and alas they were.

The non-podium finishers. You each win a section of state highways that have been turned over to city control, so that the state can stay below its legally-mandated 10,000 miles of state-maintained highways. (This is why Interstate 465, the beltway around Indianapolis, has up to eight un-signed concurrencies, and why the only numbered roads inside 465 are 65 and 70.)

Finishing in third place, with 21 points, winning the official state flower of Indiana, is ...

Magna!

In second place, with 20 points, winning an authentic "Welcome to Indiana" roadsign, is ...

Vintsanity!

And our winner, with 18 points, winning one of the many chairs Bobby Knight threw onto the court while coaching at IU, is ...

Category 13!

Thank you to everyone for dealing with my first TD. Hoping to work out the kinks and try again sometime!

Thanks for the fun game (although how you pulled of an Indiana themed TD without ever mentioning Vonnegut is beyond me! :D ). Great job hosting, and congrats to those on the podium.

I know, I know, next time when I pin it more to Indiana specifically I'll do something like that. This time I couldn't figure out a good way to incorporate a lot of different things I wanted to use, especially more "scholarly" items, and still have it only slightly-pinned to Indiana, without having a series of A-L questions and (a) I didn't really feel like writing basically 100 mini-trivia questions, and (b) I don't enjoy playing the "pick an answer from this prescribed list of questions" TDs as much as some do.

I also learned, on a side note, that if I include my answers in a future TD, I'll not only score them but the entry will count. I like the idea of having to use additional strategy of making sure that the "obvious" answers don't end up winning, at the same time realizing if too many people play defense on the same question it could prove problematic for a lot of people. My next TD I'm considering will not have that format (but a different scoring system), but maybe in the future I'll try that out.

Great rookie performance as a TD host--enjoyed playing! And congratulations to this week's podium finishers, too.

I'm a Michigander, but spent four years at Notre Dame. I'm glad Question 7 wasn't "Name a football team that defeated the Fighting Irish during the 2016 season [8 possible answers]".

And I've got a Bobby Knight story. A Columbus, Ohio, radio station sponsored a chair-throwing competition. First prize was one of Knight's jackets. Second prize was two of his jackets.

LMU played in one of the wildest games in NCAA tournament history, defeating Michigan 149-115. There's a YouTube video of this game, which bears little resemblance to the low-scoring college games of recent years.
