Jelena Ostapenko, an unseeded Latvian, won the women's title at Roland Garros today.
Incredibly, Rafa Nadal won his 10th French Open on Sunday. La decima.

Mt. Everest's Hillary Step is most likely gone, although snow is preventing absolute certainty. (Nepal is denying the claim)

Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and UFC champion Conor McGregor have announced that on August 26, they will attempt to set a world record for how many rubes will pay $100 to watch two men prance around a boxing ring for 36 minutes without either one throwing a punch.
Conor will throw plenty of punches. Whether any of them will land is another matter.

As fun as it would be if he won, I'm guessing he gets his ass kicked. They are two different sports, with different skill sets, and diving in headfirst against an undefeated former champ is a dumb, ego-driven move. It probably won't be all that entertaining either, but yeah, plenty of people will light a hundred bucks on fire to watch it.

At least with a midnight starting time here on the East Coast, it should be over no later than 12:06 AM . :)

That would be a better outcome than the time the WWF "rewarded" the wrestler who won its attempt of a toughman-style competition with a fight against Butterbean.

Director Ava DuVernay, (Selma*, 13th) has become the first woman of color to direct a live-action film with a production budget over $100 million, Disney’s upcoming “A Wrinkle in Time” (based on the book my Madeleine L'Engle, starring Oprah Winfrey and due out in 2017)

*Selma was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, though DuVernay did not receive a nod for Best Director (other directors of recent films similarly passed over: Denzel Washington, Fences; Ben Affleck, Argo)

Heck, I'll drop this in too, with the caveat that it has not yet been approved (which I think is a technicality in this case, but still)
