Roger Moore, who played James Bond in 7 movies, passed away at age 89 from cancer.
Also Dina Merrill, age 93, died - she starred in a number of movies in the 60s and her family owned the Mar-a-Lago estate before selling it to Donald Trump.

I wondered if the name "Merrill" had anything to do with the resort's name, but, per Wikipedia, "The company identifies the name Mar-a-Lago as Spanish for Sea-to-Lake." I'd say that's worth knowing, if perhaps slightly off-topic in this thread.
Very sad to hear about Roger Moore. I do wish they could have made a James Bonds reunion happen at some point (Did they try during a recent Oscars? Or maybe the London Olympics, I don't remember.) Anyway, RIP.

Even more sad was the death of 22 young people at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, UK.

Baseball Hall of Famer Jim Bunning died at age 85. Bunning, a pitcher, spent 17 seasons in the major leagues; on Father's Day 1964, while with the Phillies, he threw a perfect game against the Mets. After retiring from baseball, Bunning returned to Kentucky and served 24 years in Congress, 12 in the House and 12 in the Senate.
And a side note to Roger Moore: He also played Simon Templar in the British TV series The Saint. Simon Templar has come up on Jeopardy at least once.

Takuma Sato becomes first Japanese driver to win Indy 500.
I would expect if this is asked at all, they would ask for what country he is from. He's the first from Asia as well. No Australians yet (unless New Zealand counts) no Africans yet.

Actually, Stanley bought Black and Decker and they are now officially called Stanley Black and Decker. Used to work for B&D in the late 90's early 2000's and met the son of the founder. He was working part time there into his 90's. He used to tell the story about how when the depression his, he was the first person laid off by his dad because he didn't want to put anyone else with a family to support out of a job.

I stuck with "Stanley (formerly...)" because before my work moved we were near a B&D office and when it got bought out the logo was changed to 'Stanley' and B&D was scrubbed from the building. I will accept, grudgingly, that the letterhead may be different.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the release (or drop, as they say in the music biz) of the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," June 1, 1967. Not sure how that would come up in a question.

I think you're going to see an entire Jeopardy category devoted to this album.

That was quite the Bee. Sad to see one of them lose, but also OK that it didn't end in a tie. Rules prior to 2016 would have called that off about 9 rounds earlier.
