I said West Point on Tues cause I misconstrued "state school." Stanleyville on Thurs and I appreciated the argument for it in the daily thread, but I agree it's no good.
"Augusta" only on Fri and grateful Alex clarified it was acceptable. If pressured to supply more I probably would have added "Country Club," though the full name was quite familiar once I heard it.
Should have gotten Maine for M. Chase Smith, but I clammed thinking it might be Vermont.
It's not my favorite, but I have enjoyed stuffing pancakes with moo shu pork...

Perfect week! Pretty easy FJs; toughest might've been the state university on Tuesday.

Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

The Citadel on Tuesday (bad response). Wing Dings on Wednesday. Got a little lucky on Thursday--I would have checked "I got Brazzaville without ever having heard of Brazza". No guess on Friday.

Went with Livingstone for Thursday's FJ, knowing in my heart it was more than most likely not right.

Said Augusta National Golf Club for Friday's FJ.

Knew Brazzaville was a capital on the Congo and thought it sounded like it was named for someone.

Thought Klamath was in Idaho.

Would have put down Augusta National Golf Club

Considered Kinshasa but totally forgot about Brazzaville. Even if I had remembered, I was unaware of Brazza and don't know if I could have teased it out. Thought there might be a city called Stanleyville (which I see now there used to be) but didn't have much faith it was an African capital.
I said Augusta National.

I think UVA was eminently more tease out-able than Brazzaville (which the poll appears to be bearing out).
I would prefer not to.

I was so proud of myself when I "instagot" West Point, that I mimed writing it really slowly. I'm glad no one was around to see.

Misinterpreted "port city" as meaning "Atlantic Ocean port on this river." Guessed New Hampshire for the New England state.

Initially typed in "Augusta National Golf Club," but ended up shortening my response to just "Augusta National."

totally whiffed on the easy Lewis Carroll - i tried to pre-call 19th Century British Authors and couldn't re-boot from the stuffed shirt names. no more pre-calls on weak categories, it blocks whatever path i might have to a TOM.

i seem to be the only idiot picking Johannesburg. It is a European name after all. No facts need to get in the way, even if it's actually inland, and actually not a capital in spite of being the largest city. I thought of Stanley and Livingstone but wasn't tempted to create a town after either one. It must have been a well constructed question with all the gets here. As usual, the writers find interesting wrinkles, with the retread Lewis Carroll clue being the weakest of the week. Should'a been a 4, but nice to rebound from the nil last week.

I thought Augusta Nazi Concentration Camp, but would'a gone with Augusta National, so as not to offend any actual nazis.
Disclaimer - repeated exposure to author's musings may cause befuddlement.

Probably so. I'm pretty strong on African stuff & for the Confederacy thing, I thought Old Miss or Alabama was a possibility. But yes,it looks like the odds favored that question.
