My worst week of the season. Friday's was TOC-level. I could've gotten it if it were an LL question, but not in 30 seconds.

Somehow I spent a lot of time Monday trying to think of a waterway, despite the fact that a waterway wouldn't stretch across a river. Unfortunately, thinking of the Suez Canal got me stuck in that area once I came to my senses. I think I would have come up with the Trans-Siberian railway if I had started out on the right track (ha!). For Wednesday's I came up with Henry first (ha!), considered switching to Edward because Henry seemed too obvious, but stuck with my initial instinct with the historical info in the clue not helping to sway me in either direction.

I knew the Be Cool author's name was one I was familiar with, but I couldn't pull the actual name together in my mind.

Could've given me all day on the other two misses, I wasn't getting them.

Not a great week, but one I'll gladly live with since I was an abysmal 1/5 in each of the past two weeks. At least I got all three extras for the first time in forever.

I did not realize until I posted the poll that the week for the players was 1-1-1-1-1 for five sole solves. I wonder when that happened previously?

Hitchcock, John, Schindler. John didn't sit right because he's usually just John, non John I, but I didn't try to think of any of the others and probably wouldn't have guessed Edward anyway. I was pretty sure it wasn't Schindler (who's German, and I thought so), but Wallenberg was not a name I knew.

Overall it was a bad week for me, with lots of anti-wheelhouse categories and times I knew what they were asking for but the answer was just beyond my grasp. Berkshire Hathaway was one of the later.

Got Friday off "rival of Mars."

Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Clumsy wording on Friday's FJ! caused my son to miss it and guess Athena (Ares rival).

Figured the honorary Oscars went to a non actor, so guessed Hitchcock.

Annoying total brain freeze on Wallenberg. Knew exactly who they were looking for, but couldn't pull the name.

No idea Friday, misinterpreting the clue, but obvious in retrospect.

I could only find one other time when that happened: the second week of the 2007 College Championship.

Also, the current stretch of seven straight sole solves in Final is the longest that I know of (though there were nine straight sole solves in regular play starting with the Season 25 finale and not counting the first game of the MDCI).

Wed - Henry
Thu - (Blank) I knew it, but I probably needed another minute or two to pull it up.
Fri - '...Mars' was more helpful

Schindler on Thursday. I'm the first person to check "star in Scorpius" was more helpful (though the other part of the clue was a good check). Antares got me off the schneid for the week. ("Chief Roman goddess" definitely was more helpful than "Canada's equivalent of the Grammys".)

Ugly week until the end... Anyone else guess "Silk Road" for the transportation clue?

Kicking myself for Monday and Thursday. Both answers were at the threshold of memory but all I could put down was the obviously wrong "Orient Express" and the half-right-but-wrong-half "Raoul." Possibly could have gotten to one or the other with another thirty seconds.

Puzzled out Antares from rival=anti + Mars=Ares and was pretty confident having previously encountered the name in science fiction (e.g., the USS Antares from Star Trek).

This has proven to be an especially challenging week for finals with the highest polled currently topping out at 55%.
I would prefer not to.

WAGged John Wayne Tuesday; forgot all about Chaplin
James I Wednesday
Schindler Thursday

My first conebox of shame! But I also got my first 5/5 this season. And then 2 or 3 more. It balances out. Anyway:

Seeing as how it is polling the highest of the week's FJs, I'm going to disagree about the difficulty. It, like many things on Jeopardy, is all in your perspective.
