Same here; I read "small" as calling for a foreign word or meaning and was just bouncing around state capitals (starting with New England and working from there). By the time I got to Arkansas, let's just say I was well over the allotted time. And feeling just a tad sheepish for missing such an easy clue.SweepingDeveloper wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2017 8:35 pm I came up with Little Rock...a little too late. Then I figured it was an easy one for all three.
And Todd is still in the hunt!

Based on last week and this week, my guess is they cancelled Kids' Week but used the FJs that were supposed to be for that tournament in our recent regular season games.MTGcollegestudent wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2017 10:13 pmI hope they haven't cancelled Kids Week...CailinGaoilge wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2017 10:11 pmI don't believe there's been a Kids' Week since 2015, so I think it's unlikely we'll see one this year.MTGcollegestudent wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2017 10:02 pm Six episodes left, and we haven't seen a Kids Week episode come out, and hopefully, next week will be Kids Week to finish off this season.
I mean seriously, a state capital whose name is similar to "small" something? Seriously?
Tonight: name a state capital named for a nearby salty lake.

I'm relatively new to Jeopardy!, what's the back story about Kids' Week and what went wrong last time?

But beware the karma and schadenfreude! It could be your turn tonight for the facepalm . We have boardies that overthunk it. Such is the beauty of the game.
Oh, the answer to tonight's question for the capital is "S". The judges will have to decide if "L" and/or "C" are acceptable.

Should this reference go into the much-discussed Jboard glossary? Not sure about the reference. Does it simply mean a "cheesy" FJ clue? Thanks in advance for any clarifications.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

It's not a glossary term, it's a particularly painful memory for an esteemed Boardie:

Ouch -- thanks for the link. But I'd like to think I'd have been gutsy enough to do the same thing in the same situation.alietr wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2017 12:56 pmIt's not a glossary term, it's a particularly painful memory for an esteemed Boardie:

It wasn't just a matter of him being gutsy, it was that he got an obscenely difficult FJ. I think it polled at 6% or something equally ridiculously low. On a (much) less trustworthy program, I can see them saying, "Hmmm ... Stefan bet an awful lot. Time to break out that liederkranz clue. Bwahaha, no one will get that one!"AFRET CMS wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2017 1:05 pmOuch -- thanks for the link. LT: interjection, embankment, fiery furnace, Cole Porter, Chopin, cancellation, MDD: par avion, but surprised he couldn't get there from avion
for pronouns, I went with adjective for "mine" and adverb for "through" - ack!
4 FJ softballs for Deborah! But today was her day to go. Strong player, yes. "Giant"? No way
impairment for impediment? that seemed generous
The divan clue threw me. Turkish had me thinking ottoman but that didn't fit the description
Did terribly on the ANCESTORS category. Loved A PSYCHOTIC EPISODE! very clever

But there was a controversy surrounding the name of Mount Logan. After the death of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, prime minister Jean Poutine announced that Mount Logan would be renamed Mount Pierre Elliott Trudeau. The proposal went over like a lead balloon.mcsheffrey wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2017 9:40 pm
I was not surprised at all by the Canadian mountain TS. Mount Logan doesn't seem to get nearly the attention, even in Canada, that Denali does in the US. Maybe we need more naming controversies.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

Ira Gershwin was a lyricist, not a composer.MattKnowles wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2017 10:52 pm
I was surprised they accepted "Gershwin" but forgot about the second "Strauss".
George and Ira Gershwin were brothers that both collaborated to make music. Ira Gershwin has come up in Jeopardy a lot but mostly in associated with his brother.
Would "first day issue" be acceptable for "first day of issue"...?

What other FJ!'s polled under 10%? Seems like this one was. I remember this one was a big fat zero.alietr wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2017 1:16 pm It wasn't just a matter of him being gutsy, it was that he got an obscenely difficult FJ. I confidently said Gershwin and Strauss, knowing there would be no BMS. If there had been, I would have given the correct first names, though I probably would have made a sound like a dying giraffe and wept copiously if asked which Johann.
But these aren't exactly household names that people might get mixed up like, say, Kit Carson and... uh... Johnny?

Heh, one of Cliff Clavin's dream categories strikes again.
I got the reference to Little Rock but I misread the clue and thought that they were looking for the came of the object, not the name of the city. Whoops :-/
