USNA was my instaguess, but I spent most of the think music trying to talk myself out of it. For some reason Carnegie Mellon was calling to me but I stuck with the Naval Academy.

Vassar was founded as a women's college and didn't go co-ed until well into the 20th century. It would have been pretty funny if they were teaching courses like "gunnery" to their inaugural class. :D

Correct

I suspect that you would be one of a very small number to check the NHO box.

32 right.

Fake (4), U.S (3), Perks (1), Shoe (0), Family (2), Double "P" (2)
News (3), Musical (3), European Geography (5), Animal Farm (2), Insults (3), 20th Century Words (4)

Lach Trash: The Daily Prophet, Amelie

I knew 1845 was too late for West Point, so my next guess was the Naval Academy.

Naval Academy seemed logical, but I worried that the small class and rather late date were pointing to the Coast Guard Academy . Glad I didn't change...

Quickly played this FJ off website. Math, chemistry, steam? How about Purdue?
Yeah, I should have taken more time and considered other parts of the clue too.

The ladies seemed happy to be there... good for them.

That animal farm was tough, wasn't it?

Someone is paying too much emphasis on just wager 4k than final wager.

That's all I had. Colleges aren't a strong subject for me, and my mind doesn't go to military academies when thinking of colleges. Successfully going steam -> Boilermakers -> Purdue was a small victory for me.

Eight years ago today, the leader didn't bet to cover. Luckily for me, she bet more than her lead, and got FJ wrong.

Thought of the Naval Academy with the wording of steam, navigation, gunnery, and remembered Academy freshman Gary Tse's daily double bet of 1,845 in his 2017 college tourney quarterfinal, which clinched it for me. Thanks, Gary!

Justin played like Jordan Spieth yesterday. Started out terrible, was behind in the 4th quarter, and then blew it up. But the betting, who wants to lose on a correct answer from the lead?

Instaget on FJ, just wondered if USNA, or NA,or just Annapolis would be the safest response. Steam seemed to eliminate West Point as a 50/50.

Coryat: $35,000
43 R/0 W
DD: 2/3
FJ:
LT: Aaron Sorkin, A Bronx Tale

That was quite a fine comeback by Justin. Has anyone else noticed that he bears a striking resemblance to Power Players Week champion Louis C.K.?

My wife was happy to know she gave the same FJ! response as a TOC finalist.

If the first class of students at MIT had a class in gunnery, I think I know where the guns would be aimed -- Harvard.

West Point wasn't so big then, either. For instance, Ulysses Grant, class of 1843, graduated 21st of 39.

As for Mary, Queen of Scots, she wasn't of England, so I don't think BMS was necessary.

It's just kind of funny that both "What is Tennessee?" and "What is guppy?" were correct responses on the first board.

I guessed VMI for FJ, so I was in the ballpark, vis-a-vis.

You're forgetting Mary II of England (half of the William and Mary combo).

I think the straightforwardness of it kind of made it more difficult to get, easier to overthink. I wavered between the Coast Guard Academy and the Naval Academy for a while, and I think the 1845 made me think too early for the USCGA.

I thought it was sort of lame that Cape Kennedy was accepted.

A correct response last night extends my FJ streak to 14!
