Game Show's Greatest Cheaters

Post by dhkendall »

Jeopardy! goes unrepresented (does speak to the integrity of our favourite game show, but once again this means Barbara Lowe isn't getting any love), but I know that many/most of us enjoy game shows in general (a few names come readily to mind ;) ) and would enjoy this article (many have even been mentioned here):

I didn't care much for the article. Only two of the people were really cheating. The British WWTBAM guy and the whole 21 setup.

The guy on Press Your Luck was no more cheating than a card counter is at a casino. He was using information avaliable to anybody watching the show. Nobody was feeding him answers. Nobody associated with the show was coaching him or giving him any asistance in playing the game.

The Money Drop show was not cheating. They had a factual error, something that happens on Jeopardy from time to time. and as the article said, they missed the last question and wouldn't have won anything anyway.

I don't even know what the Dating Game story was about, an explanation would have been nice.

The article looks like his written by some college frat house resident complete with its potty humor and personal attacks on people because he doesn't like thier looks.

Well, technically in that situation the game show did the cheating. And while they missed it, I haven't been able to find a transcript of that question or how it played out. Maybe losing the $800,000 changed their dynamic playing? Like how we comment on players either bouncing back from a massive DD miss, or pointing how it ruined their momentum.

And, yeah, #1 was just stupid to have on there. Worse, it was a dumbed down retread of this:

which actually gave you backstory.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Beauty and the Beast (Disney, 2017) (7), Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (5), CHiPS (7), Pickpocket (8)

He's known as "The Dating Game" killer, because his DG appearance came inbetween murders he committed.

The lady on the other end was not among them, however. She refused her date after the show, and it never happened.

Yes, Cracked is generally "low brow humour" (or, as they put it, "we write dick jokes for the Internet") but then, in many ways, so is Win Ben Stein's Money, and I still learn a fair bit from both, and enjoy both (I visit cracked.com on a near daily basis)

Cracked is awesome. Bring on the potty humor.

I had to stop going on Cracked because I always got computer viruses after visiting that site. Game Show's greatest cheaters are the ones who were never caught.

I think this guy had a good racket going. He would enter the phone game for WWTBAM for family and friends in exchange for a cut of the winnings, if any. http://wwtbambored.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... e+cheating It explains how some of the people on the show who seemed to have no trivia prowess at all passed the test.

This is why I like the J! process, where those who passed the online test get a second (apparently, slightly easier) test in person, to weed out the cheaters. WWTBAM should have a second screen.

And you make a good point about who the greatest cheaters are

To each his own, but potty humor has never done much for me. I always remember Cracked as a very lame imitation of Mad.

Funny you should mention the viruses from that site. I used my laptop to go to that page and a day later got attacked by a virus and had to take it to the shop. That will be my last visit to that site, thanks for the tip, Megan!!!!!!
