I had another RTFQ moment yesterday on Q1. I misread what group Thorsten was referring to in the question and racked my brain trying to come up with a name for the parents (Uranus and Gaia) of the Titans. I felt so good about my answer of "Primordial Gods" until the reveal... Fortunately, my opponents very logically gave me a 0 for that question.

I took a screenshot of that brief, glorious day when I was first in A Continental. As of yesterday's match, I'm back down to 11th. :)

And to you! Chicago Mauler! Chicago Chiller? Chicago Imprisoned Governor? Chicago Deep Dish? What nickname have we settled on?

I have now played 49 matches in a row without a tie (OK, I usually play these when I'm in my pajamas, but that is not what I mean). Surely that is some kind of record.
I used to be AWSOP but wanted to be more theatrical.

My opponent gave me 0 for the ART question yesterday (lifetime .523, my worst category) and not the TV question (lifetime .924, my best category). Um, OK. Thanks for the 9(5). (And, no, he didn't get the art question, either.)
Not many people can say they've lost four times on Jeopardy!.

Is Jenny Holzer the Frankenthaler of LL74? It was one of those where I didn't even have a viable guess, so I just went with "Jones."

Mine gave me 3 for Roald Dahl. I'm currently at .857 in literature. I had so much Kosman Koining and missing the obvious yesterday, though, I'll take it--because I sorely needed it!

Looks like it. Granted, I had never heard of her, Musa, either of those mnemonics, or Tidal, so what do I know? :)

I'd never heard of either of those mnemonics myself, but I still got that one right.

Mansa Musa for me was completely from the Civilization games. Surfing this morning, I recommend the Wikipedia description about his pilgrimage to Mecca - awesome.

Thorsten is encouraging us to learn more trivia about under-represented groups. I respect that, but I seem to be learning about it only AFTER the question is asked. The wikipedia page for Holzer helps us out for next season though:
Holzer belongs to the feminist branch of a generation of artists that emerged around 1980, looking for new ways to make narrative or commentary an implicit part of visual objects. Her contemporaries include Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman, Sarah Charlesworth, and Louise Lawler.[2]
Good match PatKav!! I'm pretty happy with the 4(4)-4(4) tie!

Well, I'm sure not doing much mauling these days. Maybe we should just keep the nickname as ironic. Congratulations on a well-played tie.

<cue scary music> Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water... MD10!! Holy Mother of God, that was a tough set of questions. I ended up patting myself on the back for getting the Great Lakes mnemonics and not overthinking the Gunsmoke/Bonanza choice, and probably should have been able to pull the Tidal question, but had no chance at all on the Mansa Musa and Jenny Holzer ones. Alas, my Rundle seemed to have fewer problems with them than I did.

I recently watched the PBS series "Africa's Great Civilizations", hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. (Highly recommended! An amazing history that I had been quite clueless about. http://www.pbs.org/weta/africas-great-c ... ions/home/) Unsurprisingly, a section was devoted to the Mali Empire, the rise of Timbuktu and Mansa Musa, where it was noted that he was likely the richest person of all time and that his largesse during a pilgrimage to Mecca depressed the gold market.

I heard of Jenny Holzer and surely have seen her works many times, but went with Cindy Sherman as the only name I could pull out of my hat.
"The COMPLETE GUIDE To Republican Ethics: tRump Edition" is right ===> here

Same. I'm well familiar with "HOMES" or "SHMEO" as acronyms or initials for the names of the Great Lakes, so once I got to those from the first letters of the words in the mnemonics, I knew that had to be it.

The HOMES brewery opened this year in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Yes, the name is the Great Lakes acronym.

My first attempted Lucky Johnson of the season, literally.

This season has a personal vendetta against me or something...zero wins. Either I simply can't get enough Qs right, I do everything perfect and tie, or I botch defense. Amazingly enough, I'm not last

I had no idea about the Great Lakes question for the longest time. I left it for several hours, then stared at it some more, and it suddenly clicked. Probably the most striking example of "letting the question percolate" for me so far (I'm a rookie). Super hard to know what to do to defend it, though.
