Wow. I thought that Gorbachev was the 1990 Peace Prize winner, but I could not for the life of me figure out why he would have collaborated with Bill Clinton and Sophia Loren. That makes sense, though!

Side note: last summer, my trivia team used the name "Brexit, Pursued By a Bear" the week after the Brexit vote.

I knew Bassanio, Portia, and Angelo were all in the Merchant of Venice, but I couldn't pull the trigger on the answer, because I didn't remember the play as a comedy. I think that this is because my prof lumped it in with the "Problem Plays" and focused on the not-so-funny parts.

I thought that the ten pointer was either Mandela or John Paul II, so I'm glad I clammed on it.

I knew G B Shaw wrote Pygmalion but didn't know how long he lived, so I thought maybe somebody else wrote the adapted screenplay, like I dunno, Eugene O'Neill? grr

I don't know when I've ever to had to make so many tricky calls:

Did MLK, Jr really win a posthumous Grammy? But WECIB? <crosses fingers>
Did Gorbachev really contribute to a children's book?

It's a very rare day when I find a Shakespeare category easier to navigate

Again found first round difficult than the second. Shakespeare clues are standard J fodder - so no complaints there.

Nobel category was an eye opener. OK - I'll admit - Obama won a grammy? MLK got posthumous grammy? Knew 90 peace prize was Gorbachev, but apparently can't recall it today.

The only answer I knew for sure today was obama, although each of my guesses (Dylan, MLK, Merchant of Venice) would've been correct but I didn't want to risk the embarrassment of getting negative points for the day. Only went with MLK as it was the only name that made sense although I'm surprised he won a Grammy. Lets just say Shakespeare is one of the those subjects I will study hard if I ever get an audition as it comes up a lot and I don't know much of his works.

Not sure why I couldn't come up with the Shakespeare play with the bear - it's a famous one. :( Good clues, though.

In restrospect, I was too timid about guessing in the first category. It's sometimes hard to gauge whether you're making a reasonable educated guess.

I saw both The Winter's Tale and Titus Andronicus at the Stratford Festival in Canada. Audience members entering the theater to see Titus Andronicus were warned--not about all the violent deaths but about smoking on stage!

I find that warning a little hard to swallow...
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

I mostly got Winter's Tale because I saw it all of two months ago. I was super frazzled yesterday, though. I had just totally bombed Learned League after talking myself out of multiple right answers--GRRR!

Appropriate to say - that glutton category chewed me Yum!
Glad I couldn't recall Kobayashi for hot dog competition. Has it been that long? Geez.

I knew eventually that being grossed out by the Hot Dog Eating Contest every year but still continuing to watch it would eventually come in handy...

I took a chance on the hip-hop movie thinking that 1985 sounded right for Beat Street (actually released in 1984) and thinking "how many hip hop movies could there have been at that time?" Clearly, there was at least one that I was unaware of. For those who haven't looked it up, Krush Groove was the 15 pointer.

I almost gave the name of the parody instead of the actual name of the "1983 megahit".

Then I'm glad I didn't try to guess, because I NHOI.
