Me: Hmm, what's British-sounding and has "tam" in it?
Brain: Stamford has "tam" in it. Haven't we heard of "Stamford Bridge" before?
Me: Nah, you're just making that up. Go back to bed.
Brain: OK.

I knew the battle was Stamford Bridge, not just Stamford, so I went with it. But it's an odd name for a stadium, so I made a parenthetical comment in my response. Now that I've looked it up, I see that that IS the name of the stadium - woo-hoo!
"And has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

Lewis Carroll, "Jabberwocky"

Stamford bridge? Not getting it... should have paid attention to premier league. At least realized that Hastings doesn't have TAM...with other letter combination it would have been nasty.

I've had to clam so much this season, I can't even look at a plate of seafood right now.

I didn't know who won the Premiership last year, but I used to watch a lot of English soccer and started running through the stadium names I could remember of likely suspects. Then Stamford Bridge clicked with the name of the battle.

Almost forgot to check for questions today (probably because LL is doing an off day). Why did I clam on Tamil? It was in my head, I just didn't trust it.

Went with it because of Sri Lanka, but wasn't aware it was also a major language in Singapore. Almost a instinct because of the Tamil Tigers revolutionaries being in the news for a couple of decades.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

I didn't think a stadium would be named "Stamford Bridge," so I responded to the 15-pointer as follows:

Stamford. If prompted to BMS, I would say Stamford Bridge, since I believe that was the name of the battle.

I assume that will get me the points?

I may be one of the few who got it purely on the basis of the Premier League stadium. At least I have some reason now to be grateful for $&@#^*^} Chelsea's victory last season.

The answers for R6D1 haven't been graded because there's a problem with grabbing the answers from jboard. Thanks for your patience.

My apologies to whichever brain cell Concord was stored in, as I have obviously killed you at some point via dissolute living.

Well played! It only occurred to me after posting that every time Chelsea hosts the Spurs or Gunners, the announcers will refer to it not as a London derby but as "The Battle of Stamford Bridge." At last I get the humor of that reference.

I could only come up with insulator for 9 letter asbestos clue. Didn't think that would be a movie name.

Glad picked Juneau over Carson City...the area helped.

I think that Kit Carson is pretty well known as a frontiersman and explorer, not so much as a gold prospector  Had it been a silver miner, I would have had a much harder time with the question.
