I was about 90% sure Cabrera was from Argentina, and about 75% sure Immelman was from South Africa. Singh was the only one I was truly confident about.

Son of a gun. Veered away from "Bull Durham" (one of our favorite movies) being sure it would sheep or be close to it -- and it winds up unused. And wound up sheeping on a previous question with what I was thinking would be a lesser-used answer. Definitely not particularly effective at thinking differently this session.

Evidently not even particularly effective at thinking, period. Darn.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

I transmogrified Larry Mize with Mike Weir and was sure I'd steal one from the Canadians. I actually knew all of them except for Larry Mize and questionable about Immelman.

So far my strategy of filling out the form in 4 minutes and not using any drop/sheep is paying off bigly and I'm leading the points race!

Thanks clt013 for the game. There's some real minutiae under the hood.

I was all set to go with "The Natural" but changed it to a drop while filling out the answer form, thinking it would be a heavy hitter along with Bad News Bears and A League of Their Own.
Now I wish I would have dropped the soccer team instead, but maybe I'll get creamed on the tennis question anyway.

thought about going with the obvious of either williams chick, since most would stay away with them because they seem likely to be sheep, but couldn't do it because with a category like this wouldn't think many could name too many more players outside of the williams sisters

Me too, but then I decided this was a good question to use my drop on because my knowledge of women's tennis is even worse than my knowledge of the NBA.

10. Not the Original Six: With the Vegas Golden Knights starting play this season, the NHL has now more than quintupled in size over the last 50 years. Re: TD 356 - Ball-a-palooza (Q1-Q12 revealed)

I'd have to double check, but I'm pretty sure Bob Griese was injured during Super Bowl VII and Earl Morrall started. That's what prevented me from using him.

Just checked Griese missed both AFC playoff games and most of the regular season but returned in time for the Super Bowl.

BONUS Round (Correct answer = -1, Incorrect answer = +1, "Sheep" for each question = 0, Singletons = Additional -1)

There are four categories below. You may give up to ten total answers, with no more than three in one category. If you happen to get a singleton, you will receive an additional BONUS of (-1).

A. World Series: The New York Yankees have appeared in 40 Fall Classics and won 27 of them. Name another franchise (keep previous locations in mind) to win the championship in more than half of their World Series appearances.

Great TD. Of course I enjoy the sports trivia; thought I might find my way to Sports Jeopardy but that sounds like that is not meant to be.
I think this is my first top 10 finish after about 30-40 entries. I always somehow find a way to Think Similarly to others. :D
Congrats to the podium finishers!

Thanks for the TD! I had more fun and did better given the format you designed. It was a nice way to make a sports topic quiz more accessible to those of us who quit following sports closely after the 1985 Royals.

*facepalm* I was going for Monica Seles, not that I'd have fared any better in that situation. Dammit.

I am genuinely surprised that the Montreal Impact were the sheep for their question. I had so many choices, and I thought that was a reasonably safe bet. I'm shocked that Tom Brady wasn't for his.

Mid-pack isn't bad for my first try, especially for really only knowing one sport (hockey) very well. That was fun!

MarkBarrett (H - Speed Skating)

Don't take away my sports credentials. I know Bonnie Blair is Speed Skating and Misty May-Treanor is Beach Volleyball.
I also plead "don't take my sports cred". I knew every one of the sprots figures in Q1... but for some reason I brain-farted and typed figure skating for Bonnie Blair instead of speed skating. Cost myself five points.

So, I finished sorta near the bottom instead of about midpack.
