Sad Legal News About a Former Champion
This is going to be coming out anyway, so I might as well put it here. Words fail me. Please keep any discussion to a reasonable level.

I'm glad it's not about a death, at least. My thoughts are with Doug.

I'm fine with how you put it. In a way it softened the blow.alietr wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2017 5:25 pmI just didn't know how to put it, Stefan.seaborgium wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2017 5:23 pm I'm glad it's not about a death, at least. My thoughts are with Doug.

Sad is fine and I understand how tough that is to find the right wording for the thread. I thought someone died, so perhaps get "Legal" in there somewhere? What shocking news, but thank you for sharing as like you said, it's going to get out.seaborgium wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2017 5:28 pmI'm fine with how you put it. This is just awful for everyone concerned. I feel terrible. It's hard to know how to think about this unless and until more details come out. If Stephanie was in the wrong, I hope she'll face the consequences with grace and without making excuses and will be able to rebuild. If this is a misunderstanding, I hope that will become very clear. I'm still a big Stephanie fan and will always remember how she had Roger Craig on the ropes for the first half of her Battle of the Decades game.

I can only say that my interactions with her have always been positive. I can only hope that this is all a big misunderstanding and that she did not do this.

The news item is disheartening, but there's always a "rest of the story." I'm going to hold to no opinion until/unless all the facts are available.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

I would have said “unfortunate” as I also thought someone had died.alietr wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2017 5:25 pmI just didn't know how to put it, Stefan.seaborgium wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2017 5:23 pm I'm glad it's not about a death, at least. My thoughts are with Doug.
As for the story, it really didn’t go into depth about what happened or why they think she might have done this. She has always been a fun person on here and I also hope this is a misunderstanding and she is cleared of the charges.
If she did do this, I would be very shocked and disappointed.

Definitely sounds like a strange situation.
There is clearly more to this story.

That's true. College administrations are beyond bizarre. I hope it's just a misunderstanding. I rooted for her - being from the same area and my wife was an adjunct at a couple of universities down there around the same time she was on the show. I've even visited Tecumseh a few times, and it's not an easy place to find.

Very troubling. Stephanie is a real sweetie. I'm hoping that there's an innocent explanation to this.

'Sad' had me thinking a male was accused of sexual harrassment.Bamaman wrote: I would have said “unfortunate” as I also thought someone had died.

“Adrian College wants to sincerely thank the Michigan State Police and the Lenawee County Prosecutor’s Office for their thorough investigation and for ultimately bringing charges in this crime,” the college’s statement said.

Sounds like something I may have done in the past without malicious intent and without knowing it was a crime.

I've said quite often that I'm fortunate that my youthful explorations of other systems (I'm looking at you, MIT-AI) took place in an era before public awareness and the subsequent legal penalties that ensued. At times, it ain't bad being an old fart

https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/ ... 927102001/Lenawee County prosecutor Burke Castleberry Jr. said he couldn't discuss whose e-mails were hacked, but said: "I can tell you this much: Basically there was a technology incident at Adrian College that caused the college to send out a campus-wide reset. When they did that there was a temporary password. Anyone could have gotten into anyone else's e-mail at that point.''
Castleberry said the investigation revealed that Jass had hacked into the e-mails of a couple of people and had access to them for up to four days.
Sounds like Adrian College needs a better IT department.

Probably so. But it doesn’t justify someone doing what she is accused of.goforthetie wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2017 11:05 amhttps://www.freep.com/story/news/local/ ... 927102001/Lenawee County prosecutor Burke Castleberry Jr. said he couldn't discuss whose e-mails were hacked, but said: "I can tell you this much: Basically there was a technology incident at Adrian College that caused the college to send out a campus-wide reset. Thanks for clarifying that. I was hoping that was what you meant.
