Transformers: The Last Knight earns the dubious honor of having the most nominations on the list announced Monday, with a total of nine. It was “recognized” in categories that include worst picture, worst actor (Mark Wahlberg), worst supporting actor (Josh Duhamel and Anthony Hopkins), and worst screenplay.
Coming in second with eight nominations is Fifty Shades Darker, which also earned a nod for worst picture along with worst actress for Dakota Johnson and worst actor for Jamie Dornan

One story that has gotten a great deal of attention here in Michigan is the sentencing of former sports physician Dr. Larry Nassar, who pled guilty to ten counts of sexually assaulting girls and young women under the guise of providing medical care. At the victim impact phase of Nassar's sentencing (ongoing as of today), more than 150 women, including Olympic gymnasts Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas, and Simone Biles, confronted the doctor.
Which brings up the question of what trivia is likely to come up on Jeopardy. I doubt that the show wants to go near the Nassar case, as lurid and potentially far-reaching as it is.
Other posters in this thread reacted with dismay to the Kardashians coming up in trivia. As much I cringe at the very mention of the word "Kardashian" (or Jenner), celebrities like them are going to come up.

Vermont's governor signed a bill that permits adults to possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana and up to 2 mature marijuana plants, effective July 31. (However, the legislation does not provide for legal retail sales along the lines of Colorado.) Vermont becomes the first state to legalize marijuana by act of the legislature, as opposed to a vote of the people.
Neil Diamond, who turns 77 on Wednesday, announced his retirement from touring after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Diamond canceled the upcoming Australia/New Zealand legs of his 50th Anniversary Tour.
And Elton John, who is 70, will retire from touring after he finishes his three-year-long "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour in 2021.
Hugh Masakela, age 78. Legendary South African jazz musician, perhaps best known for his 1968 instrumental hit "Grazing in the Grass". Also of note regarding nominated females: Rachel Morrison earned a nomination for Best Cinematography for her work on the film Mudbound, making her the first ever woman nominated in that category.

Mount Mayon, the Philippines' most active volcano, erupted for eight minutes on Monday afternoon, spewing a 3-mile-tall column of debris and volcanic gas. It exploded at least five more times Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Baseball writers elected four players to the Hall of Fame: Chipper Jones, Vladimir Guerrero, Jim Thome* and Trevor Hoffman. They will join Alan Trammell and Jack Morris, who were voted in last year by the Modern Era Committee.
Not elected: Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds, who are tainted by the steroid scandal. Both received votes from a majority of writers, but fell well short of the 75 percent needed to get in.
* Notorious Tiger killer.

On December 12, 2017, Ed Lee died of cardiac arrest during his tenure as mayor. Board of Supervisors President London Breed served as acting mayor until January 23, 2018 when Supervisor Mark Farrell was appointed interim mayor by the Board of Supervisors.
On June 5, 2018, a special election will be held for mayor of the City and County of San Francisco. The winner of the election will serve until 2020, filling the unexpired term of Ed Lee.

If London Breed does not win in June there will be a fourth different person with the mayoral title in San Francisco in six months or so. That is where J! could make a clue and Ryan Murphy could make a TV movie.
As is typical in San Francisco it's a wide cast of characters involved in all of this and there has been a lot of political maneuvering going on since Mayor Lee's death. Race, gender, sexual orientation and degrees of being a Democrat (progressive to moderate) are in play with the local media of course eating it all up.

Scientists in the Swiss city of Basel have solved a decades-old mystery over the identity of a mummified woman.
Their research revealed a surprise: the woman is the great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother of UK Foreign Secretary [also former London mayor] Boris Johnson.

Now the scientists and the historians were sure: the mummy was none other than Anna Catharina Bischoff. Born in Basel in 1719, she died there in 1787.
