Even getting that wrong answer I'm not doing too bad!

And I'm super annoyed because I live in TN (the "only reason I won my game", no I won't let that go) and have driven between there and LA many many times. I assumed 59 had to end in TN even though it isn't the road I start on, I guess?

I muffed a question involving I-59 on a previous TD, if it makes you feel better. I confused it for US Route 59, which I took when driving from Kansas City to Tulsa for a job interview a few years ago.

8. Venues Visited: I have seen over half of the 30 MLB teams play a home game. However, many of them (as well as a couple of NFL teams I watched) have moved on to different stadiums since the first game I attended. Given the year of one of my visits, name the current team I saw host a game in one of the listed stadiums. (Give answer as letter followed by team name.)

MLB

F. Qualcomm Stadium (1996)
G. Veterans Stadium (2001)

I’m going to protest my and guessonguessonguess’s negative responses for Q8, on the grounds that the full name of the football stadium in Memphis is Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

While I dislike having to count answers as incorrect, I am sticking with the original ruling on this one.
I am not aware of the stadium in Memphis being called just "Memorial Stadium" and would have included "Liberty Bowl" had I been referring to it.

Two wrong answers in a row (Yes, I actually answered that the Phoenix Open is in Phoenix instead of the frickin' state!) and I plummet from second to mid-pack. To be honest, it was a fluke I was anywhere near the top ten anyways but still, I need to pay a little bit better attention to the questions.

Rats again. Figured the Yanks would be the go-to answer for those with limited baseball knowledge, so skipped that one. I was sure the Angels were in the WS twice in a row, but clearly my memory is fading. Badly.

There are hundreds of Memorial Stadiums. Even beyond the two in question here, the Carolina Panthers played their inaugural 1995 season at Memorial Stadium (the one at Clemson), and the Chicago Bears played the 2002 season at Memorial Stadium (the one in Champaign). There was a lot of negbait potential with that option, but it turns out there’s more than one team who played at a Memorial Stadium in 1997. The host watched a game in Baltimore, but there’s no way I could know that.

This is a case of “the answer isn’t what I was looking for, but based on the information provided, it isn’t wrong.” The host admits he wasn’t aware of the Liberty Bowl stadium’s full name when he wrote the question; I’ve overlooked some details when I’ve written TDs, too.

11. Penguins (NHL): On cold winter nights in Iowa with nowhere to go (and no cable TV), I sometimes listened to sports on the radio. Thanks to a strong KDKA signal - and silly Mike Lange catch phrases that teenage me found entertaining - I began following the Pittsburgh hockey club. Since then, they have made six Stanley Cup Final appearances (and won five times). Name any Penguin player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, any team the Penguins beat in the Stanley Cup Final or any location (city or arena counts - though not scored separately) of a Cup-clinching victory by the team. {Hints: 66 (ML), 71 (EM), 87 (SC); All cups won on the road - 3 in arenas no longer in use; 2 "Original Six" opponents; 1 team that has since moved.} [13 possible answers]

The total correct responses for each of the three "sub-categories": Teams beaten - 13, MVPs - 10, Cities/Arenas - 9...

12. Seahawks (NFL): As a young child, I collected gumball helmets of all NFL teams and was excited in the late 70s when there were two new teams to add. I also decided to pick one of that pair as my favorite and went with Seattle's blue and green over Tampa's Bucco Bruce. Although the Buccaneers won one first, the Seahawks have since been to three Super Bowls and also claimed a league championship. Name any team that Seattle has ever beaten in the playoffs or how many seconds elapsed before they scored in each half of Super Bowl XLVIII. {Hints: Teams by current division = AFC East - 1, AFC West - 2, NFC East - 2, NFC Central - 3, NFC South - 2, NFC West - 1; Only 3 of this year's playoff participants appear on the list} [12 possible answers]

All teams were used at least once, while nobody tried to guess the number of seconds - which actually was "given" as both the question number and total of possible correct answers...

I'm not overly concerned since the stakes here are incredibly low (prize wise; this does certainly affect my contention!), but the Tennessee Oilers most certainly played their games at a Memorial Stadium in 1997. Given that the full official stadium name was not used on every single given option and the fact that the notation to the correct answer specified "Liberty Bowl" as opposed to "Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium," it seems pretty cut and dry that Tennessee Titans should be considered a valid answer given the question.

Out of curiousity, I looked to see how the Titans referred to their 1997 home in this season's media guide...

Gaining 11 points on Question 8 (from 13 down to 2) and the additional bonus of (-5) for 13 correct with no drop or sheep used would vault guessonguessonguess to the top. So go ahead and be "old school NCAA Football" and each claim a share of the title - everybody gets the same prize anyway. :)

So, this is not exactly the exit I envisioned a few months ago, but since I am now out of "creative" ways to package my combination of sports, pop music and 80s + 90s trivia (Yes, I realize most may think that actually happened many moons ago.) this marks the last TD that I will author. Thanks to everyone for the advice, corrections, encouragement and especially participation - because without that "TD" would equal "Truly Dead". As long as nobody was using multiple handles, there were over 100 different people to participate in the quizzes I created/hosted. Special recognition goes to the following group who entered all thirteen:

classicroadster
clprez
gamawire
MarkBarrett
MattKnowles
merica
Peachbox
Tybalteon

After posting my first TD last March, I had no idea that there would ever be twelve more to follow - let alone within 10 months. I certainly had fun on the hosting side and hope that everyone on the participation side gained at least some enjoyment from the experience, if not the results. Thanks again, everybody!

CLT, thanks for hosting these! It seems we share many of the same interests (born 1974 here, in Illinois, huge sports fan, I'm a Seahawks fan since the days of Steve Largent and Jim Zorn so I should have gotten the 12 seconds answer since it equates to the 12th Man, etc.).
I usually do poorly in these TDs, but this might have been my first or second top ten. It's still fun though sometimes incredibly aggravating :D I hope you author again soon!

I just read your KDKA story and it reminds me of my own. I grew up in NJ and I'm a Mets fan. One night, in college, I was tuning my radio to the Mets-Pirates game on what I thought was WFAN 1050 AM and I started doing homework. After a while, I realized that somehow I had accidentally tuned to KDKA and was getting the Pirates feed in New Brunswick, NJ.

Pleased to finish in the top 10. As I've started to piece together my own TD for possible use someday, I greatly appreciate those who can crank out good material for us to enjoy, so I will add to the thanks and congratulations for all of your great work with these clt!
