A balloon twister definitely goes in the J! occupation hall of fame.

Nice run by Gilbert in COLLEGE HOOPS to open the game and earn the applause. Unlike others who have had the opening 5/5 in a good category and then run into problems, Gilbert scored on plenty of other clues.

It’s sad when “only” four clues left hidden is considered improvement.

The combination of movie, Internet service and Best Picture nominee left me with no doubt what to write. The early start left me plenty of time as that is a title I would not want to solve with time almost up.

This is the clip for Alex’s explanation at the end:

So can I count this as a get on the poll, even though I’ve never heard of it?

Well, ya gotta root for a balloon twister. Congrats to Julie for solving FJ. I answered the same as Gilbert, just to put something down. Did their inaccurate FJ wording really prevent Rebecca from giving the desired response? Rebecca, are you out there? Better luck next time around. (I still want Wilbur back, too!)

I'm curious to see if Alex will be wearing the outfit with the red tie tomorrow indicating the powers found the problem with the FJ! clue in between the taping of the Thursday & Friday games or if that outfit occurs at a later time indicating perhaps Rebecca brought something to the attention of the producers.

Either way Rebecca gets to play again even if she had no idea on the FJ! clue and was in no way thrown by the wording. Or it could be Rebecca knows a lot about current movies, studios, producers etc. and knew the correct response did not wholly fit the clue's wording. It happens with the return invitation occurring for various reasons.

Julie gets the sole solve and $2K for second for her troubles.

The surnames in today's game had 3 Zs. Now I have to look to see if Leszek Pawlowicz ever played a Z person. :)

I've never heard of Manchester by the Sea. My guess was the same as Gilbert's.
Never been on J!, but once won a knockoff version that aired on local access TV.

No guess at all. I've heard of the movie, but had no clue it was associated with a streaming service.

I was aware that Manchester by the Sea had something to do with Amazon, and I streamed it using that service, so I got this one.

I was going to say the Camus quote was overvalued, but it was a triple stumper so maybe not.

I also don't think Eminem and Jack White look very similar.

Julie definitely missed that it was a video clue. She is pointing toward the photo screen and commenting to Rebecca at the end when the category is being revealed, seemingly having just realized that there was a photo. Julie was at the table right in front of me during our audition... super nice girl, was hoping she'd have a better showing :(

I really like Gilbert. He is not flashy, no shtick to distract and make the show all about himself, no tics or interjections - just clear, crisp clue requests and responses, a pleasant demeanor, and a wide knowledge base. I don't know how long he'll be around, but I'll take someone like him over an Austin Rodgers any day, even though I suppose Austin would drink Gilbert's milkshake one-on-one. Keep on keeping on, Gilbert!
"And has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

Sorry, they can't bring back contestants who started writing their Final response too late and thus didn't have time to finish, i.e. Wilbur; unlike Rebecca's case, the results on Wilbur's show still stand, and no amount of hissy fits will convince the production staff to bring him back.

Dude! How did you know that's my jam?! And I'm going to throw an ineffectual hissy fit to it right this minute.

Yeah, I didn't know that was going to be about vinyl records until they finally started revealing the clues. Figures.

My enthusiasm for the FJ category was quickly disolved when it turned out to be something out of the internet age. No chance for me on that one.

Yeah, I will probably never see this movie, but I'm aware of it due to some alleged misbehavior by Casey Affleck that hit the news at the same time the movie was garnering awards.

Surprised to hear some of you have never heard of Manchester by the Sea, as it was just nominated last year

Wonder why they didn't call the FJ category THE OSCARS?

Didn't know this one. Was struggling to decide between Beasts of the Southern Wild and Beasts of No Nation

So what was the first film produced by a streaming service to be nominated for Best Picture? I can't find it online
