Canada's Smartest Person
I would be remiss if I didn't inform my fellow Canadian boardies about this upcoming CBC show:
http://www.cbc.ca/smartestperson/index.html
You have from now until Jan. 8 to apply.

He doesn't count, he has all the answers in front of him.iowabelle wrote:I thought that was obvious.... Alex Trebek.
(Besides, for all intents and purposes, he's American now in both citizenship and residence, I don't think he'd qualify anyways.)

Re: Canada's Smartest Person
I'm gonna have to try out for that. But they seem to want a video submission for entry (optional but recommended).
I don't think that is within my capabilities within the next week.

Re: Canada's Smartest Person
Interestingly, I learned about it because a friend of mine nominated me (she's a Mensan, and considering she knows several people who are smarter than me by definition (my score wasn't high enough on the Wonderlic test to qualify for Mensa, I was honoured that she thought of me first) and those that are nominated by someone else don't require the video part, just some information.bpmod wrote:I'm gonna have to try out for that. The video part *is* optional, remember. I'm thinking if they want you, they'll find a way to get a video out of you (such as asking you to report to the nearest CBC station to record it)

I qualified for MENSA once. I don't remember the details, but it had something to do with not being able to afford membership or something.dhkendall wrote:Interestingly, I learned about it because a friend of mine nominated me (she's a Mensan, and considering she knows several people who are smarter than me by definition (my score wasn't high enough on the Wonderlic test to qualify for Mensa, I was honoured that she thought of me first) and those that are nominated by someone else don't require the video part, just some information.

My thoughts on the video are, if that is a recommendation, you'd need to be really really impressive to get noticed without it.
Maybe somebody could nominate me.

I wasn't able to find out what the prize(s) is(are). Is it just the ability to add "Canada's smartest person" to your business card? If so, I think I'll pass and play at home. Tax free cash please!

Re: Canada's Smartest Person
Well, I didn't think that everyone would want to apply, but I figured it might also be interesting to watch (have no details on that, however), since we would probably enjoy shows like that.

My goodness!
What a brutal application!
I hope I gave them what they wanted. Looking forward to competing against David.

Wife works for the company, can't apply. I'll have to go to my backup plan to get on CBC TV - become the next Ralph Benmergui.

Did Mulroney ever work for the CBC? I only remember him being on CTV.dhkendall wrote:Or Ben Mulroney.mennoknight wrote:Wife works for the company, can't apply. I'll have to go to my backup plan to get on CBC TV - become the next Ralph Benmergui.

Yeah, I don't think Brian was ever a big friend of the Mother Corp, and Ben's always been on CTV.waterloo_guy wrote:Did Mulroney ever work for the CBC?
