BONUS. -1 point

Only bev nar and lefty correctly named Sir Walter Scott as the lyricist of "Hail to the Chief." Wrong answers: Emerson, Irving Berlin, Shaw, Dr. Seuss, Walt Whitman, Robert Burns, Longfellow, Frost, Burns, Key, Maya Angelou.

Here are Scott's lyrics:

Hail to the chief, who in triumph advances,
Honour'd and blest be the evergreen pine!
Long may the tree in his banner that glances,
Flourish the shelter and grace of our line.
Hail to the chief, who in triumph advances,
Honour'd and blest be the evergreen pine!
Long may the tree in his banner that glances,
Flourish the shelter and grace of our line.

Here is a 20th century version written by songwriter Albert Gamse, best known for "Managua, Nicaragua":

Hail to the Chief we have chosen for the nation,
Hail to the Chief! We salute him, one and all.
Hail to the Chief, as we pledge cooperation
In proud fulfillment of a great, noble call.

Yours is the aim to make this grand country grander,
This you will do, that is our strong, firm belief.
Hail to the one we selected as commander,
Hail to the President! Hail to the Chief!

Thank you, FloridaGator for putting this one together. It was informative and interesting. Each question had good softballs, Ykioyds, and a whiff of negbait. Maybe next time I'll remember Ike isn't a "modern" president, just because I remember him . Now I've gotta go chase kids off my lawn 8-)

I am going to object most strenuously to your q10 ruling. I freely admit that my response of Adams was ambiguous but your decision to neg me rather than asking for a BMS is just plain punitive. I submitted my responses early, providing you with plenty of time to BMS me. Since Adams was a perfectly correct response, I would have BMSd in your place. Your game, your rules, I realize, but that decision leaves a foul taste in my mouth.

I don't read the responses until it's time to start the reveal. BMS is not a thing in TD. The header instructions for the game said that first names were necessary for presidents with the same name. Full credit would have been given for John Adams. To be extra careful, I would have said John Adams, the 2nd president. I suspect this would not have engendered a protest except for the fact that the sheep score on Q10 was 16. It is unhappy that the main source of points is not the sheep rule (+5) but that the sheep score was so high. The cumulative scores on this TD have gone crazy high not because there are many wrong answers but because there have been many wild sheeps.

Negging for Adams is not a close call. Another way to look at it is 17 people got almost as many points without making an error.

You should have used your drop. That would have reduced your score by 1-16 points. Some TDs have a rule where you get a bonus if you don't use a drop or a sheep, but this was not one of those.

AND THE WINNER IS....

PEACHBOX!!!!

Congratulations to Peachbox, who was robbed on two earlier TDs where she was leading when the TD host left the reveals unfinished.

Thank you to all who played. This was fun to write and reveal.

Here are the answers to the bonus questions and the number of people who got it right. Honorable mentions to wpwells and gamawire for being the only ones to accrue six bonus points.

Thanks for hosting floridagator! This one was a lot of fun - presidential trivia is right up my alley most of the time. Happy to finish in the top ten with a couple singletons to boot. Congrats to Peachbox for winning as well!

Probably should have read the general instructions before submitting my entry instead of after.

I was just so happy to be in a position where I didn't HAVE to use a drop because I didn't know an answer. I usually need both a drop and a sheep to avoid taking the extra points for a wrong reply.
