CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Alex: Mary Kalemkerian is a human rights officer from New York. It's amazing how people are influenced by motion pictures and television series. I get the feeling that that would include you, because you danced in New York on a public street with 99 zombies?
Mary: That's right. Last October, for the first time, I joined the "Thriller" troupe in the New York City Halloween parade. And we learned the choreography for Michael Jackson's "Thriller", which is incredibly complicated, as you might imagine.
Alex: Yes.
Mary: And then, you know, all dressed up as zombies, and I and 99 others marched up 6th Ave. for about an hour doing the choreography on constant loop.
Alex: Good for you. All right.
Alex: Kate Tucci is a blogger from Los Angeles who is obsessed with a different character.
Kate: Yes.
Alex: Harry Potter.
Kate: Very obsessed.
Alex: In what way?
Kate: Well, many ways. Most of my wardrobe is made up of Harry Potter-themed T-shirts and other clothing. I have two Harry Potter-themed tattoos. This one [indicates the "Lumos" tattoo on her right wrist] is the spell for light in the universe, and it kind of inspires me to just spread light a little more.
Alex: Good for you.
Kate: Thank you.
Alex: All right, champ, we have good news for you.
Alan: Oh.
Alex: Your response you gave a little while ago was deemed acceptable by our judges, and that means we are adding $1,600 to your score. You now have $2,800.
Alan: Thank you very much.
Alex: That make you feel good?
Alan: That does, thank you.
Alex: Okay, good.
JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
Kate found the Daily Double on the 23rd clue. Alan had $4,400, Kate had $3,000, and Mary was at $200. Kate wagered $1,500.
ROUGH WATERS $1000: In 2016 the waves at Mavericks in this "lunar" California bay were gnarly, dude, like totally hitting 50 feet
TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
MAMMALS $800: Descriptive moniker for this South Asian export
(Mary: What's a wild boar?)
RHYME TIME $600: A sense of excitement in Sao Paulo
RHYME TIME $800: An irritating inconvenience at Balmoral
(Kate: What is a Scottish itch?)
RHYME TIME $1000: The most essential chorus
MASTERCLASS $800: Serena Williams talks about how to master the fundamentals of these, forehands & backhands from the baseline
(Kate: What is a swing?)
SCORES AT THE END OF THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
Alan: $6,200
Kate: $4,500
Mary: $0
