Interesting about the torch being passed to the Warthog, but I'm of the impression (from Quora) that it is tactically obsolete (along with tanks). Our infatuation with that big gun notwithstanding.
It's been an interesting debate to follow the last decade or so -- Congress likes the airplane and the Army LOVES it; infantry troops say having a two-ship of A-10s show up in a firefight feels like having the cavalry come over the hill with bugles blowing. The Warthog does fine in a low-threat environment but would be a dead duck against first-world antiaircraft measures. The USAF leadership says that other aircraft can take over the close air support mission and they don't like being forced to spend money keeping the A-10 operational at the expense of F-22 and F-35 development. Valid points on both sides; it's one of those issues where the final decisions are more political than military.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.
