Woof wrote: Fri Mar 09, 2018 12:16 am Yes, this did seem easier. Taking it from sherder’s video, I got a 47, a new high for me, and that was with stupid misses on Sanger and Yelp.
Yeah, I shouted out "Sanger!" in frustration 4 questions later. Luckily the rest of the test went smoothly so I don't have to think about that for a full year.

32/50 if you accept "Hot sping" in a frantic attempt to get "Hot Springs" down in time. Not passing, but a personal best.

43 for real, best effort this week! Whew!

A couple thoughts:

This one did seem to cater more towards Canadians (Alberta, poppies (a poem that every Canadian schoolkid learns)), perhaps this was what helped me today
11 - me get a sports ball question right, instantly? That's unpossible!
22 - "Oh, gee, I don't know too many female SCJs. There's Sotomayor, and RBG, and there was one in between them. RBG has been on the court forever afaik, so she must be the first. But who would be second, I"m sure it's not Sotomayor either, must be that one between them. Can't think of who it is. Aaah! TIme's almost up. Going with Ginsburg! (Later:) Whaaaaaaa? (So who was the first? (Oh, right, just thought as I was typing, must be Sandra Day O'Connor)
31 - "One of the Marys." *types "Mary"* "Oh, but I don't think they'll accept that. But it's not like they had last names or ways to distinguish them. I guess Magdalene was the most distinguishable by name of the Marys, I'll go with her. (I like how I sussed that one out.)

Hope I get the chance to meet some of you lovely folks in the City of Roses!

Took my first ever J! online test tonight. Wouldn't it figure that I'm in tech for a show this week, and my only shot was the 11 p.m. (Eastern) test. I ended up sitting in the theater parking lot with my laptop and my phone's personal hotspot to take it. Looks like I had 31/50. I'd watched the videos of the last two days this morning, and got 31 and 36, respectively... but of course it's the one I took that counts.

Speaking of shows, by sheer coincidence I met Maryann Penzvalto while in line to see a production of Sweeney Todd just a few days after her last game aired. We chatted a bit about her experience and the online test (and the car horn double-tap), which is what encouraged me to make it happen in spite of the hectic week. If nothing else, taking it highlighted my weak areas (literature, art, and recent pop music) so I know what to focus on next time.

I would think they would take Socratic (I know it said his), as it is known as the Socratic Method.

Took the test for real yesterday and got a 37, but today's was much easier, easily got a 43! Definitely my best ever! Too bad i didnt save this one as my real, but this week i am satisfied, 34-37-43. First time breaking the threshold. Hope i can get to an audition for the first time, it would be such an honor!!

I'm sure this has all been mulled over before but maybe 35 isn't always a passing mark and they just take the top x% of each session? Possibly influenced by audition location and gender as well. Just an idea.

Good point about Canadians.
Certainly they winnow down people based on location, there is only so much room per session in each city they visit. And since the dawn of the online test, everyone gets to audition on the signaling devices instead of them weeding out non-passers from the in-person test, so there is only so many people they can see.

CatJeopardyOW wrote: Thu Mar 08, 2018 11:53 pm I apologize if this is a JBoard faux pas, but would someone be willing to tell me if some of my "judgement-call" answers would be accepted as correct? They are:

2. fort night (Space between words, not fortnight)
9. merry wives of windsor (Not "THE merry...)
15. hot springFs ("f" typo.)
22. ginsburg (Misspelled; Not full "Ruth Bader Ginsberg"; could be confused with Allen Ginsberg)
25. luther (Not full "Martin Luther")
31. mary (Not full "Mary Magdalene")
34. mao (Not full "Mao Zedong" or "Chairman Mao")
37. imperile (Not "peril"; this one's a stretch...)
IMO your answers for 2, 9, 22, and 34 are fine. As a general rule surnames are sufficient unless there's two such people who fit the bill--presidents named Johnson for example. Since Allen Ginsberg was neither a Supreme Court justice nor a woman, you should be fine there. 15 and 37 are probably ok. It would be pretty harsh to count off for the typo in Hot Springs, especially given the time limits and format of the test. You're almost certainly out of luck on 31 though. There's about a half dozen people named Mary in the New Testament, and without qualification the name generally refers to the mother of Jesus.

Just barely had time to look up the right ALT command for 𝑙'𝑎𝑐𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑖𝑔𝑢 in "touché". Whew!

Anyway, 46. I should have had Yelp, but "business" to me suggested a place where people dress up in suits and come in to sit at desks in their cubicles, when they're not exchanging office gossip at the water cooler. Also missed Sheeran, Ice Cube (was close there with Ice T) and Big LIttle Lies (totally out of my reach, that one).

So 43, 44 and 46 for me. There's your data point.

That is hilarious, because that is exactly what I was able to complete for that answer, and I was wondering the same thing. The number of times my fingers will simply not type what I am thinking and I have to backspace and then rush to complete the answer is remarkable. Same thing happened on Amundsen ... I ended up with something like Aemendso ... I feel confident they are not accepting that one!

Should not matter as I got at least 38 even without those two (or Albe, or pen ... plus I put Pretty LIttle Liars for Big little Lies ... ugh). Really started slow, missing 8 of the first 16, causing some panic, but I rallied and missed only 4 of the last 34.

I assume you do not need full names for Sheeran, Plath, Ginsberg, Mao, Gaiman, and Baldwin.

Finally got to it after my pessimistic joking post earlier in the thread. It worked as I got through most of my anticipated bad categories unscathed. A few did come through to catch me.

My misses:
Drake for Ed Sheeran who a few questions later I realized was a better guess(current music)
Pyrenees for Andes (geography)
Khruschev for Mao (world leader)

One almost caught me (business) as I wrote Fiat and fortunately had enough time to make a quick change to Ford.

That gives me 45, 43 & 47 for the easy to calculate 45 average.

Thank you for video uploads and answer keys. Good luck for incoming audition emails. I enjoyed seeing the happy posts about getting 35 or above after previous attempts not scoring quite as high. Especially from those who have been trying for multiple years and been a hair below the presumed threshold.

Did anyone miss Pierre or diabetes? Those seem like all they do is bump up the number of passing scores and to me they are misplaced on the adult exam.

33-36-39 for me this week, with the Central being the "real" one. I think I'm slowly improving from year to year. I hope I get the email. This one seemed much easier - no WAGs unlike yesterday.

47, same as last night. Bad miss with Stanton for Sanger, Ed Sheeran is someone I remain uninterested in, and Neil Gaiman remains outside my ken.

47 for me, and this test felt a lot easier than Tuesday's (43-45 depending on spelling/alternate response leniency) or Wednesday's (44). Misses:
Spoiler
35. William Styron
42. Lexington
49. Knew it contained "Lies," but couldn't get any farther than that

Heh, I had the same mistake on 42. as you did.

Also, since it's been bugging me more; do any of you think it matters that I wrote "Socratic", referring to the method, or "dark and stormy night" instead of "dark and stormy"?
