Funny, I woke up this morning thinking, for whatever reason, that it was time to learn the Seven Ancient Wonders, and spent a few minutes lying in bed skimming the wikipedia page. Clearly I didn't skim hard enough -- only got 1/5. But it's a start.

I got FJ right largely because of
Spoiler
having read some of the excellent Robert Caro LBJ books when I was younger. After flying back to Washington the afternoon of JFK's assassination, LBJ was sitting around planning his presidency with some aides who had been pulled together at a moment's notice. LBJ saw an image of Harry Truman on a TV that was playing in the background and turned to his aides and said "we are going to pass Harry Truman's health insurance bill." Or, at least, that's how I remember the story.

Heh, actually Civilization trips me up on the Seven Wonders, because I have to remember what the actual list is rather than what's in the games. I sometimes forget whether it's Alexandria's library or lighthouse that was wonderful. All I know is that if it weren't for that accursed Great Wall, the Sioux and Celts would have surely taught me a lesson.

FJ! = what big government program started in 1965? Easy.
The clue didn't say "big government program". That would have been easy. Well, once me and TPH cipher what is 82-17 + 1900 - 1900

Do you have any room under there? I also went with Secret Service protection at the live taping I attended on 12/12/17. However I got it right tonight, so just wait 3 months and you'll do better

I thought about SS at the live taping in the audience, and knew it was from the 1930's. I remember that lifetime SS protection (including FLOTUS) became a thing in my lifetime, but don't remember when or for whom. I would have gotten this with a different TOM, but Bess Truman doesn't even make sense as the first recipient and probably didn't need it.

It going to be a fun week re-watching and nailing FJ's  . I am surprised how new it seems, and I didn't even pick up on the Mr. Dark thing in real time.

Just FYI, 'tis a very cromulent guess:

In 1965, Congress authorized the Secret Service (Public Law 89-186) to protect a former president and his/her spouse during their lifetime, unless they decline protection.

Maybe Bess and Ladybird become covered simultaneously, Bess wins on former Flotus status. Now, back under the couch...

That reminds me. How well can you hear what's going on from the audience?

Several years ago, I took the family to see a taping of a different game show (with a family theme - kids were welcome, and played along with their parents). It was very hard to hear anything during the tapings. They definitely kept the volume low for the audience. (The amateur sound man in me knows they were afraid of feedback and unwanted echos.)

IIRC, we could hear all the audio perfectly with high quality sound. The audience was very quiet, thanks to Johnny Gilbert reminders to be quiet when called for and to get real loud at correct DJ and FJ answers and category runs (he also gave us visual cues). The theme music was quite loud, as well as the porn movie guitar fillers. The whole taping of an episode is very close to 30 minutes, maybe 5 minutes plus, depending on little re-dubs of lines from Alex.

31 right.

7 Ancient Wonders (3), Drill (3), Compound (3), "M"tertainment (5), Beauty (0), Amendment (4)
Bedfellows (3), Literary L.A. (2), Movie (0), Lake (3), Education (3), "Show" & "Tell" (2)

Lach Trash: "My House", shoes, Laurie Metcalf, Raymond Chandler; Daily Double: Lake Como

It was a pretty quick get for me because of the date, and remembering a picture of LBJ with Harry & Bess Truman at the bill signing.

Thanks for the info. I suppose there's a significant difference between a show that has taped 7000+ episodes over 35 years, mainly in a single studio, and one that has taped 2 or 3 dozen over 3 years in 3 or 4 different studios.

The show we saw taping was anything but a fine tuned machine. Everyone was professional, of course. But everything took quite a while. They spent about 3 hours taping an hour long show, and could only tape two shows a day. The audience (at least where I was sitting) couldn't hear much, and we were frequently confused about what was happening. I ended up just following the lead of the stage manager. Clap when they say to, stop when they say to. The edited show looked just fine when broadcast, but there had to be an awful lot of film left on the cutting room floor to get there. (Figuratively speaking, of course!)

The Parthenon wasn't one of the Seven Wonders.
I would prefer not to.

Not a fan of Dark Man... the Dark Knight sounds a lot better! (I'd say Dark Lord, but that's already taken  )

Social Security.. even though I knew the year was different. Oops.

The Parthenon is also (unless I'm sadly mistaken) not one of the seven wonders. The only one of the seven standing today: Great Pyramid.

In doing so well in the online quizzes last week I must have shot my wad. This was one of the most difficult games in memory for me, with only 28 right and a whole bunch of stand-and-stares.

I'll get 'em next time.

Although probably not as thoroughly as Zach got 'em in this game. That was powerful.

Oh yeah, I noted it at the time but forgot to post about it: kudos to Mark for ringing in and guessing on the last $2,000 clue when he needed to get that and the $1,600 above it to prevent the lock.

That was a complaint my guests had at the Millionaire taping (when it was in Stamford) -- they couldn't hear what was being said on the stage, so they got pretty bored.

Anyone else go for Medicaid? I thought of Medicare right away, but for some reason talked myself out of it. It was one of those where after the 30 seconds was up I had no idea why I thought Medicaid was the better answer, but that's the X factor the time limitation creates.

I thought Medicare was so obvious that I mulled over Medicaid for a few moments, but decided that since it's meant to be a program for the poor, Truman couldn't have qualified...Same reason it couldn't have been food stamps! I knew Social Security far preceded '65.
Enrolled in Secret Service protection strikes me as an unlikely turn of phrase...
