CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Alex: Regis Michelena is a civil engineer from Casper, Wyoming. Regis, I'm sure you heard of some of the problems with the big rainstorms we had in southern California.
Regis: Oh, yes.
Alex: A little over a year ago. And one of our spillways collapsed. You work on dams...
Regis: Right.
Alex: In your part of the country. Do you have problems also?
Regis: Nowhere near like that. We don't get quite the precipitation that you do. But no, we've got several large dams out of the Wyoming area office for the Bureau of Reclamation. I'm involved with dam safety for that, primarily on the lower North Platte River.
Alex: Okay, good to have you with us today.
Alex: Lisa Mueller is from Illinois. You wrote an angry letter to us here at Jeopardy! when you were just a little girl. What did we do wrong?
Lisa: There was a Harry Potter final, and I was the biggest Harry Potter fan. And if I couldn't get it right, of course it couldn't have been right. So I wrote a couple of angry emails. I said, "I'm 11, and I'm appalled, and this is what you did wrong."
Alex: And did I respond to that letter?
Lisa: Oh, I didn't write to you, but a nice guy at Sony responded and said, "You know, this isn't the right place to do this, but we appreciate your passion."
[Laughter]
Alex: If you had addressed your letter to me, I would have written back to you personally.
Lisa: Yeah? Oh.
Alex: Oh, yes.
Lisa: Can I still do that?
Alex: Sure.
Alex: Rahul Gupta from Virginia is a data engineer, but both your parents speak a language you don't.
Rahul: That's right. My mom is from Canada originally. She grew up speaking Ukrainian. And my dad's from India, speaks Hindi. They don't offer either of those in school, so I took up Spanish.
Alex: That's right. Your mom is from northern Saskatchewan.
Rahul: That's right.
Alex: Where there were a lot of Ukrainians.
Rahul: Exactly.
Alex: My dad was scheduled to wind up in northern Saskatchewan, but jumped off the train in Toronto. That was good for me.
Rahul: A little warmer.
Alex: Yeah, you bet.
JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
Regis found the Daily Double on the 25th clue. Rahul had $2,800, Lisa had $3,000, and Regis was at $3,200. Regis made it a True Daily Double, wagering $3,200.
CALENDARS $800: As this calendar was left behind, the year 1752 only had 354 days
(Regis: What is the Gregorian calendar?)
TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
WORLD OF SOUP $600: Believed to be an aphrodisiac, mannish water soup from Jamaica is made from the head & guts of this barnyard animal
(Lisa: What is sheep?)
(Rahul: What is a cow?)
ART & ARTISTS $1000: This English landscape painter's 1816-1817 work "Flatford Mill" demonstrates his distinctive use of clouds & sky
THE FLIES OF THE LORD $800: Though some say "a flaw in" this, the Bible verse where we probably got the expression specifically mentions flies
(Alex: What is a flaw in [*]? A fly in [*].)
THE FLIES OF THE LORD $1000: This prophet AKA Yesha'yahu says, "The Lord shall hiss for the fly" in the rivers of Egypt
CALENDARS $1000: In 2015 Gigi Hadid posed in this Italian company's calendar
[The end-of-round signal sounds.]

Re: Monday, March 19, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]
Lisa converted her Daily Double and the gentlemen did not. Rahul’s miss on the conquistador/sea combination cost him his chance to repeat.
I will guess this is the FJ! clue that Lisa wrote emails about back when she was age 11:
#3559, aired 2000-02-10 FICTIONAL CHARACTERS: Title hero whose boarding school's motto is "Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus", "Never Tickle A Sleeping Dragon"
It seemed like the problem with the clue was not anything factual, but that Lisa as a big fan was upset she did not get it right.
If it comes up in later posts do the judges have a problem with a FJ! response that omits “The Department of?”
That was nice Lisa had it right as otherwise I would be bugged by the convenient time’s up. 16800-8000-6000 begs for at least one more $400 clue to allow for the chance of Rahul to make it a 16800-8400 game. Nope, beep beep beep, runaway and less interesting FJ! round.

I feel as though there was some sort of controversy as to whether that motto had appeared in the books or not.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Mar 19, 2018 2:56 pm #3559, aired 2000-02-10 FICTIONAL CHARACTERS: Title hero whose boarding school's motto is "Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus", "Never Tickle A Sleeping Dragon"

I don't believe the motto actually appears in the U.S. editions of the books. Or at least, didn't back in 2000.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Mar 19, 2018 2:56 pm

Sunny quotes + Langston Hughes + dry up like ______, a DD? Also, no Sesame Street clue. Boooooo.
Instaget FJ. I wonder if they would've accepted DHS and saved them all the writing.

Ugh - halfway through the FJ clue I decided on the TSA and never looked elsewhere, despite the number of employees sounding unusually high. Had a real "Duh!" moment on the reveal. I hate it when I do that.

Instaget FJ here. I missed the first segment due to weather updates from a possible tornado that hasn’t hit yet.

that i don't have speculation on, but if they didn't take just "DHS" there'd be a problem for sureMarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Mar 19, 2018 2:56 pm
If it comes up in later posts do the judges have a problem with a FJ! response that omits “The Department of?”

I'm from New Orleans.
The wording/description of the first question was sort of okay. However, I'm not sure what was in that bowl, but whatever it was , it was NOT gumbo.

Alex needs to learn his (Brazilian) Portuguese phonics. An "R" at the beginning of the word, or an "RR" anywhere else, is pronounced like an English "H." Receita is pronounced "heh-SAY-tah."
I have never heard of a "flaw in the ointment." Did that cause anyone else to clam?
English landscape painter = John Constable. I need to drill that Pavlov into my head.

I considered TSA as well, but given that DJ! contained a clue about their x-ray machines, I figured it highly unlikely they'd be asked about again.

This is the source of the photo J! used for the gumbo: https://www.google.com/search?q=gumbo+s ... 3fwKw0U4mM:
As to the dish itself? I'll leave it to the experts. I think I recognize carrots.

Don't forget Thomas Gainsborough, though the writers seem to most associate him with Blue Boy.

Seeing as how I drive by their headquarters every weekday, I wasn't going to miss this one.
