Yup. Auld Lang Syne was the only one I recognized for sure. There were a couple of others that sounded kinda familiar, but nothing I was willing to risk a neg for. Some of the songs had their titles in the lyrics? That's great!! Now, which words of this song I've never heard before are the title, and which are just regular lyrics...

i did't bother listening to any of the clips because i had never heard of that dude before...didn't think there would have been anything i recognized

I included "Wonderful Copenhagen" because it is an important song, from a musical about Hans Christian Andersen.

Mark Barrett's reasoning is faulty. The rule is that if the title is included as a substring of quoted lyric in an answer, it is acceptable.

Therefore, if the title is "Copenhagen," then the following are acceptable:
Copenhagen
Wonderful Copenhagen
Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen

If the title is "Wonderful Copenhagen," then the following are acceptable:
Wonderful Copenhagen
Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen.

Interestingly, if another entrant had not used the wrong letter for his answer of "The Band Played On," then "Auld Lang Syne" would have become a co-sheep.

Thanks for the song clarification. The title is WC. WWC is fine. C would be wrong, but there is no reason to guess that since making it WC or WWC works fine. Got it. Yes, good movie with many memorable tunes.

Thanks for the game and I loved the close finish. Congrats to Rackme and Woof.

Unfortunately for me, this is likely a high water mark for me finishing in the top 25. Days before I entered, I was in a store and held a bottle of the Old Spice Captain Body Wash because I have a dog named Captain. And I have relatives in Lake Ronkonkoma, so I was pretty confident about getting two singletons. I knew the Wonderful Copenhagen song, but was unsure of the exact title. I'll know better next time.

I watched "The Third Man" recently and definitely recognized the theme but I did not know it was simply titled "The Third Man Theme." I didn't know what a zither was before watching that movie but now I do.

Hmm.

How about doubling the value of points for the second half of the ring? That would be consistent with the Jeopardy/Double Jeopardy rules that we all know and love.

I believe there are lyrics to the "Third Man Theme" that begin "When a zither starts to play . . . " Beyond that much, I can't recall.

The forgettable lyrics were written by screenwriter Walter Lord (most famous for "A Night to Remember," about RMS Titanic). They were recorded by Don Cherry, who gave up singing to become a pro golfer.

When a zither starts to play
You'll remember yesterday
In its haunting strain
Vienna lives again
Free and bright and gay

In your mind a sudden gleam
Of a half forgotten dream
Seems to glimmer when you hear
The Third Man Theme

Once again there comes to mind
Someone that you left behind
Love that somehow didn't last
In that happy city of the past

Does she still recall the dream
That rapture so supreme
When first she heard the haunting
Third Man Theme

Carnivals and carousels
And ferris wheels and parasols
The Danube nights
The dancing lights again will shine

The zither's sweet refrain
Keeps swirling in your brain
Like new May wine
Strauss waltzes, candle-glow
And the laughter of long ago
Fill the magic chords
and make it seem like today

You never knew that you could be
Enchanted by a melody
The years will never drive it out
You don't know why
It's something you can't live without
You hear it in the twilight hush
And in the morning traffic rush
A song that's always new
In your heart a part of you
Oh, shines so brightly when you hear
The Third Man Theme
When a zither starts to play
You'll remember yesterday
In its haunting strain
Vienna lives again
Free and bright and gay
In your mind a sudden gleam
Of a well remembered dream
Seems to glimmer when you hear
The Third Man Theme
Once again there comes to mind
Someone that you left behind
Love that somehow didn't last
In that happy city of the past
Does she still recall the dream
That rapture so supreme
When first she heard the haunting
Third man theme
Carnivals and carousels
And ferris wheels and parasols
The Danube nights
The dancing lights again will shine
The zither's sweet refrain
Keeps swirling in your brain
Like new May wine

And the laughter of long ago
Fill the magic chords
And make it seem like today
You never knew that you could be

INCORRECT - 11

dhkendall (Phar Lap)

BONUS - Name the other two races of the Triple Crown.

Everyone who answered got -2 for the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. That is everyone who played except dhkendall
 Well I can safely claim to be the player who knows the least about horses in this game.
