I got hung up sideways, kept thinking "There isn't a shuttle named Trieste." Then I realized that was the bathyscaphe that went down there, not the trench itself. Then "Challenger Deep" clicked about the 20th second, and I pulled it out. This Is Kirk! wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 12:23 am Knew Challenger Deep, never heard of a Challenger sub, but the first bit of knowledge was all that was required.
Those of us with gray hair are probably more familiar with the Trieste as the pioneering Marianas Trench exploration submarine.
edit: After looking it up I do recall David Cameron's sub. but I doubt I'd be able to come up with the name "Deepsea Challenger."

Well! That's too bad you missed the FJ!MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 11:47 am Caroline’s neg being reversed was one I saw coming, so she was sad (Aw!) then happy (Hurray!)
Rats! I’m down to 33% on the FJ! clues as I went for the one alphabetically first. Unlike yesterday I expect some company on my miss. Nice job by the gentlemen to make the clue go 66%.
Oh! And you missed yesterday too.
Hey! At least you had some company on that miss.
Just acknowledging I caught the reference. I had the pleasure of playing the stage version of Schoolhouse Rock years ago.

I learned about Lemonade Lucy from Carlo Panno, a former Jeopardy! researcher (from back before they had writers).seaborgium wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 3:08 amThe only way most know her name is from the "Lemonade Lucy" sobriquet. I'd say it's one notch easier than the most obscure First Ladies.

So in his honor, I yelled out "Who is ‘That damn teetotalin’ bitch!'"

Many dittoes. "Space shuttle that was also a sea vessel? Gotta be." Then, "Oops, is there an 'Endeavor'" trench?" Took a moment for Challenger Deep to surface.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

I vaguely remembered something about Challenger Deep associated with the Marianas Trench, so got the FJ!BigDaddyMatty wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 10:08 pm Coryat: 45,000
50 R/1 W
DD: 2/3
FJ:
LT: chords, Lucy Hayes, Nancy Reagan, clamp/champ, Island of the Blue Dolphins
I'm surprised so few here are familiar with Challenger Deep. Being the deepest place on Earth, it's one of those trivia chestnuts I've come across time and again. Also, from what I hear, Deepsea Challenge, the documentary about James Cameron's trek to the bottom of the ocean, is really interesting. I should get around to watching it one of these days.

Themiscyra is the city of the Amazons in Greek mythology, easy to get Wondy from that.

didn't come to me for some reason...as soon as lucy was give i said "oh yeah..."lemonade hayes"IronNeck wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 2:08 am Do I have a historical blindspot, or was that Lucy Hayes clue quite difficult? And props to the trio for going 2/3 on FJ. I thought of Challenger, but dismissed it as being illogical for the name of a deepest part of the Mariana Trench.
Also, I read Island of the Blue Dolphins as a kid, but missed the TS. It was so wretched I had blocked it out of my memory.
Overall, this was the best-played game thus far, as can be seen in the high combined Coryats.

I'm finally able to start catching up after tax season. Sorry for bringing back older threads.
R: 36, W: 2, costing 1200
Coryat: 26,400
FJ:
DD: 1/3
LT: (Memorial Day), chords, Nancy Reagan, clamp/champ
Ran music, worst category was Blue Books (natch) with only 1 right. And that from knowing that Blue & Grey points to the US Civil war.
Got FJ thanks to a video game my wife and son enjoyed very much many years ago. One of the goals was to get to the Challenger Deep, so it came up often in the game play. Combine that with growing up around the space program (and a rocket engineer as a father) and the right answer came to me pretty easily.

Aha! Wondered where you went. I missed your posting of the times of each round during some of the blazing times in the college tournament.Peter the accountant wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 3:36 pm I'm finally able to start catching up after tax season. Sorry for bringing back older threads.
